Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Day‐ahead wind power combination forecasting based on corrected numerical weather prediction and entropy method

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2021
To satisfy the grid operation scheduling requirements for wind power forecasting model accuracy, the measured wind speed near the height of the wind turbine hub is added to the wind power combined forecasting model.

Long-term wind resource and uncertainty estimation using wind records from Scotland as example [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A systematic analysis of the sensitivity of a wind turbine’s output to changes in observed wind statistics between different sites in Scotland over available wind records of up to 43 years length was performed.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Hybrid Short Term Wind Speed Forecasting Using Variational Mode Decomposition and a Weighted Regularized Extreme Learning Machine

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
Accurate wind speed forecasting is a fundamental element of wind power prediction. Thus, a new hybrid wind speed forecasting model, using variational mode decomposition (VMD), the partial autocorrelation function (PACF), and weighted regularized extreme ...

Evaluation of simple wind power forecasting methods applied to a long-term wind record from Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present an analysis of the ability to predict the power output from a nominal wind turbine or wind farm a few hours ahead using only locally available data – either the current and recent wind speed or power output. A third method combines the current

A Hybrid Nonlinear Forecasting Strategy for Short-Term Wind Speed

open access: yes, 2020
The ability to predict wind speeds is very important for the security and stability of wind farms and power system operations. Wind speeds typically vary slowly over time, which makes them difficult to forecast.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

A novel wind speed prediction approach based on wind speed fluctuation characteristic extraction and dual decomposition

open access: yesAIP Advances
The accuracy of wind speed forecasting plays a crucial role in the operation of the power grid. However, the intermittency and randomness of wind present significant challenges to the accuracy of wind speed predictions.
