More Photogrammetry for Wind-Tunnel Testing

AIAA Journal, 2002
Recent work by Liu et al. has led to renewed interest in the use of photogrammetry for measuring the position, attitude, and deformation of a test article in a wind tunnel. The present research expands on this work with a more comprehensive mathematical model that can be used not only for determining the interior parameters of the cameras, but also the

Wind tunnel testing of wake control strategies

2016 American Control Conference (ACC), 2016
Goal of this paper is to present results from wind tunnel tests aimed at evaluating the potential of different wake control strategies for wind farm power maximization and load reduction. The experiments are conducted in a large boundary layer wind tunnel, using up to six servo-actuated and highly sensorized wind turbine scaled models in different wind

Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Testing

1992
In general, there are four primary reasons for wind tunnel testing: 1. understanding aerodynamic flow (research) 2. development of a database 3. parametric configuration studies and 4.

Transonic wind tunnel test sections

Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnel Tests of Wind Turbine Airfoils

10th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference, 2004
Aeroacoustic wind tunnel tests were performed for six airfoils that are candidates for use on small wind turbines. One additional airfoil (NACA 0012) was tested for comparison to benchmark data. The acoustic measurements were performed in NLR's Small Anechoic Wind Tunnel, for a range of wind speeds ( U) and angles of attack, with and without boundary ...

Wind-Tunnel Testing of Structures

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1977
Civil engineers, architects, and city planners are beginning to use design data derived from wind-tunnel tests as extensively as aeronautical engineers have for many years. This evolution of wind engineering has been made possible by development of special meteorological wind tunnels that simulate essential characteristics of natural boundary-layer ...

Wind Tunnel Tests for Wind-Excited Benchmark Building

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2004
This paper presents an overview of the wind tunnel studies conducted at the boundary layer wind tunnel facility at the University of Sydney to determine across-wind forces acting on the 76-story 306 m high benchmark building. The paper briefly describes the boundary layer wind tunnel and its special features, and then presents the testing procedures ...

Transonic Wind Tunnel Testing

1990
Abstract From the preceding chapters it has become obvious that a purely theoretical treatment of most transonic problems is not possible, at least today. For a reasonable assurance of the accuracy of the theoretical results, comparisons with test data are still a necessity. Data for this purpose may be obtained from free-flight tests or

Low speed wind tunnel testing

Fourth Annual IEEE Semiconductor Thermal and Temperature Measurement Symposium, 1988
An introduction to wind tunnel design, wind tunnel data uncertainty analysis, and nondimensional presentation of measured data is presented. The primary components of a wind tunnel and the purposes of each are discussed. The importance of delivering uniform flow to the test section cross section is considered with regard to the effect of nonuniform ...

Parafoil Wind Tunnel Tests

1971
Abstract : Extensive parafoil wind tunnel tests were carried out. Parafoil model sizes ranged from .09 sq ft to 147 sq ft and parafoil aspect ratios ranged from .5 to 3.0. The wind tunnel test velocities ranged from approximately 20 ft per second to over 60 ft per second. The aerodynamic stability coefficients were measured.
