Study of trailing vortices and impeller jet instabilities of a flat blade impeller in small‐scale reactors

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Abstract The design of economically feasible and profitable production processes has driven companies toward integrated continuous manufacturing by reducing working volumes and increasing operating frequencies. Thus, the development of robust small‐scale devices capable of multivariate process optimization is essential.

Improved energy production of multi-rotor wind farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The multi-rotor (MR) wind turbine concept can be used to upscale wind turbines without increasing the rotor diameter, which can be beneficial for transport, manufacture and design of wind turbines blades. The rotor interaction of a MR wind turbine leads to a faster wake recovery compared to an equivalent single-rotor (SR) wind turbine wake.

Digital Twin Framework for Time to Failure Forecasting of Wind Turbine Gearbox: A Concept [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Wind turbine is a complex machine with its rotating and non-rotating equipment being sensitive to faults. Due to increased wear and tear, the maintenance aspect of a wind turbine is of critical importance. Unexpected failure of wind turbine components can lead to increased O\&M costs which ultimately reduces effective power capture of a wind farm ...

Wind turbine reliability data review and impacts on levelised cost of energy

open access: yesWind Energy, 2019
Reliability is critical to the design, operation, maintenance, and performance assessment and improvement of wind turbines (WTs). This paper systematically reviews publicly available reliability data for both onshore and offshore WTs and investigates the

Mathematical Toolbox and its application in the Development of Laboratory Scale Vertical Axis Wind Turbine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A wind turbine works with the principle of extracting energy from the wind to generate electricity. The power generated is directly proportional to the wind speed available. There are two major types of wind turbine design namely the horizontal and vertical axis wind turbine depending on the orientation of the turbine rotor and its generator.

Modelling and control of wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2010
Abstract As the world is currently facing an energy and climate crisis, the development and utilization of alternative sources of energy has become an important challenge. From all types of renewable energy sources, wind turbines proved to be one of the cleanest and most reliable solutions for energy production. Wind energy conversion systems have in

Vibration control of spar‐type floating offshore wind turbine towers using a tuned mass‐damper‐inerter

open access: yesStructural Control & Health Monitoring, 2019
This paper investigates the use of a passive tuned mass‐damper‐inerter (TMDI) for vibration control of spar‐type floating offshore wind turbine towers. The TMDI is a relatively new concept as a passive vibration control device. The configuration consists
