AI-Driven Fault Detection and O&M for Wind Turbine Drivetrains: A Review of SCADA, CMS and Digital Twin Integration

open access: yesEnergies
The rapid expansion of wind energy has increased the operational complexity of wind turbines, where component degradation, environmental variability, and maintenance decisions are tightly coupled.

A New Method of Determination of the Angle of Attack on Rotating Wind Turbine Blades

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The angle of attack (AoA) is the key parameter when extracting the aerodynamic polar from the rotating blade sections of a wind turbine. However, the determination of AoA is not straightforward using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or measurement ...

Back-to-back Converter Control of Grid-connected Wind Turbine to Mitigate Voltage Drop Caused by Faults

open access: yes, 2017
Power electronic converters enable wind turbines, operating at variable speed, to generate electricity more efficiently. Among variable speed operating turbine generators, permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) has got more attentions due to low

Simulation of wind turbine wake interaction using the vorticity transport model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The aerodynamic interactions that can occur within a wind farm can result in the constituent turbines generating a lower power output than would be possible if each of the turbines were operated in isolation.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Evaluation of Tip Loss Corrections to AD/NS Simulations of Wind Turbine Aerodynamic Performance

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The Actuator Disc/Navier-Stokes (AD/NS) method has played a significant role in wind farm simulations. It is based on the assumption that the flow is azimuthally uniform in the rotor plane, and thus, requires a tip loss correction to take into account ...

Experimental study on the characteristics of wind turbine wake field considering yaw conditions

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2021
This paper explores the wake of a wind turbine yaw and its influence on the output power of the downstream wind turbine. A wind turbine model (hub height and diameter of 1.2 m and 1.0 m, respectively) was used in the experiments, and the yaw angle of the

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Analysis of the effect of slope on the power characteristics of wind turbines in hillside terrain

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
As a kind of clean and renewable energy, wind power has a wide development prospect. The aerodynamic performance and power generation efficiency of wind turbines are influenced by the gradient of wind turbine installation terrain. In this paper, the 5 MW

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...
