Wind speed estimation for wind turbine control
2012 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2012In the literature, proposed control strategies for the efficiency of wind energy conversion systems are usually based on gain scheduling PI controller using the pitch angle to control the rotor speed. Focus is then only made on power production.

In this chapter, the author introduced wind turbine control, discussing sensors and actuators, operating regions, and the operational controller loops. The author then described the different levels of models needed in the controller development process, emphasizing that the models needed for control design are a simplification of the detailed models ...

Control of floating wind turbines
2012 American Control Conference (ACC), 2012Wind energy is a clean, renewable and extremely fast growing form of electricity generation and the potential to install turbines deep offshore is only just being realised. The vast majority of commercial offshore turbines have foundations on the seabed thereby restricting the depths at which offshore farms can be installed. In an attempt to facilitate

Constrained Wind Turbine Power Control
2019 American Control Conference (ACC), 2019Typical wind turbine controllers are designed to regulate generator power to some fixed, rated value. We demonstrate a power regulator that uses wind speed measurements to control the power rating, increasing to capture more power and decreasing to mitigate peak blade loads and generator speeds that occur in extreme turbulent gusts.

Wind turbine power plant control
2016 Dynamics of Systems, Mechanisms and Machines (Dynamics), 2016In this paper we proposed multi-stage algorithm of small wind turbine power plant control when it supports maximum extracted power independently on traditional tip speed ratio using the wind speed. We made measurements of wind turbine parameters on urban and prairie territories, showed the necessity of power controlling the turbine, and vindicated the ...

In the wind industry, research needs exist in the areas of reduction of wind turbine structural loads and maximization of wind energy capture in order to reduce the cost of wind energy. For modern large-scale variable-speed variable-pitch wind turbines, these goals can be achieved via the use of modern controllers.

Review of wind turbine control
International Journal of Control, 1990The literature on the design of control sysems for medium- and large-scale wind turbine generators is reviewed. The vast majority of relevant literature is concerned with the control of horizontal-axis machines. Emphasis is given to public-utility service machines with power outputs in the range hundreds to thousands of kilowatts.

Dynamic control of wind turbines
Renewable Energy, 2010The paper presents an intelligent wind turbine control system based on models integrating the following three approaches: data mining, model predictive control, and evolutionary computation. To enhance the control strategy of the intelligent system, a multi-objective model is proposed. The model involves five different objectives with different weights
