Numerical Study of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine with Spoiler Based on Orthogonal Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
This paper investigated using spoilers to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of vertical-axis wind turbines. Taking the NACA0012 airfoil as the research object, the orthogonal experimental method design was employed to combine the parameters of the ...

Fault Diagnosis and Data Reconstruction of Temperature Sensors for Wind Turbine Stator Winding

open access: yesShock and Vibration
A proposed method for diagnosing sensor faults in the stator winding temperature sensor of a wind turbine is introduced, aiming to address the significant issues that arise when such malfunctions occur, affecting the overall stable operation of the ...

Universal Electronic‐Structure Relationship Governing Intrinsic Magnetic Properties in Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

Selective Separation of the Rare Earth Elements Dysprosium and Neodymium via Tailoring Nanocellulose Chemical Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

The small wind turbine field lab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The emerging market of small wind turbines (SWT) is characterised by a large variety of turbine types as well as turbine performance. The abundance of more ‘exotic’ types of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) next to the more traditional horizontal axis ...

Fluorine‐Free Soft Nanocomposites for High‐Speed Liquid Impact Repellence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorine‐free soft nanocomposite coatings are developed using silicone oil‐mediated mechanical‐stiffness control, enabling ‘dry’ liquid‐repellent surfaces that resist high‐speed water jet impacts up to ∼60 m/s. By tuning nanoparticle loading and oil content, the coatings also achieve >90% optical transparency, amphiphobicity with impact resistance to ...

Fatigue assessment of flange connections in offshore wind turbines under the initial flatness divergence

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Bolted ring flange connections are widely utilized in offshore wind turbines to connect steel tubular segments. After the massive production and installation of offshore wind turbines in the past decade, flatness divergence is regarded as one of the most
