Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Highly inhomogeneous interactions between background climate and urban warming across typical local climate zones in heatwave and non-heatwave days

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Urban heat island (UHI) in conjunction with heatwave (HW) leads to exacerbation of thermal stress in urban areas. Prior research on UHI and HW has predominantly concentrated on examining the thermal conditions at the surface and near-surface, with few ...

Using wind setdown and storm surge on Lake Erie to calibrate the air-sea drag coefficient.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The air-sea drag coefficient controls the transfer of momentum from wind to water. In modeling storm surge, this coefficient is a crucial parameter for estimating the surge height. This study uses two strong wind events on Lake Erie to calibrate the drag

An extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation for water waves with linear shear flow, wind, and dissipation

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
Based on potential flow theory, governing equations are developed for surface gravity waves affected by wind, dissipation, and a linear shear flow (LSF). The LSF is composed of a uniform flow and a shear flow with constant vorticity.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Standing waves in the plenum of an open jet wind tunnel: Resonance and self-excited oscillation

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
The low-frequency pressure pulsations in a large low-speed open jet wind tunnel were studied using a 1:20 scaled model wind tunnel. It was found that plane pressure standing waves existed in all three directions of the wind tunnel’s plenum.

Proton Heating in Solar Wind Compressible Turbulence with Collisions between Counter-propagating Waves

open access: yes, 2015
Magnetohydronamic turbulence is believed to play a crucial role in heating the laboratorial, space, and astrophysical plasmas. However, the precise connection between the turbulent fluctuations and the particle kinetics has not yet been established. Here

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Predicting Wind Wave Suppression on Irregular Long Waves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The applicability of the wind wave suppression model developed by Chen and Belcher (2000) to irregular wave environments is investigated in this study. Monochromatic and irregular wave environments were simulated in the W2 (Wind/Wave) laboratory at the ...
