Method for quick prediction of windage power loss
2014 Conference on Information Storage and Processing Systems, 2015This work introduces a method by using an empirical formula to quickly predict windage caused power loss of hard disk drives. The results obtained by the empirical formula are compared with those obtained by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and validated by the experimental measurement data.

Windage power loss reductions in high-speed gear pairs
Forschung im Ingenieurwesen, 2019This paper deals with recent experimental and numerical research in the possible reduction of windage power losses (WPL). It is accepted that these load-independent losses become prominent over other sources in mechanical transmissions with peripheral speeds above 100 m/s as is the case in energy production, aeronautics and electric vehicles.

Influence of Rotor Design on the Generation of Windage Power Loss in Salient Pole Generators
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2021In order to determine the impact of various rotor structural elements on generation of windage losses, a computational fluid dynamics study on one salient pole generator has been performed.

Experimental Investigation of Shrouding on Meshed Spur Gear Windage Power Loss
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 73rd Annual Forum, 2017Windage power loss in high-speed gearboxes result in efficiency losses and increased heating due to drag on the gear teeth. Meshed spur gear windage power loss test results are presented at ambient oil inlet temperatures both with and without shrouding.

The Effect of Axial Flow Velocity on Annular Gap Windage Power Loss
Volume 2B: Turbomachinery, 2017As surface speeds of electrical machinery increase to meet ever more demanding application requirements, windage power losses due to shearing of air (or other process fluid) between the rotor and stator take on an increasingly significant role. Historically, these losses have not received a huge amount of research attention from the high speed motor ...

Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2020
Abstract With the widespread of spiral bevel gears in aero-engines applications, it becomes a burning challenge to reduce the windage power loss owing to the high-speed rotation of these gears. As shrouding the gears has been manifested as an effective approach to reducing windage power losses and restricting the flow in the vicinity of gear teeth, a

A Windage Power Loss Model for Spur Gear Pairs
Tribology Transactions, 2010This article proposes a simplified fluid mechanics–based model to predict the windage power loss of a spur gear pair operating under jet lubrication conditions. In this model, the total windage power loss is defined as the sum of (a) the losses associated with the interactions of individual gears with the air or air–oil mixture and (b) the losses due ...

Research on Windage Power Loss of Spur Gear Base on CFD
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012The paper established three-dimensional Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model of the oil-air mixture in the gearbox after meshing by ICEM CFD simulated the turbulence model by the CFD. The method of calculate the windage power loss (WPL) of the spur gear were put forward.
