Wind deformation of the Subaru primary mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
I will report on the deformation of the Subaru Telescope primary mirror surface due to wind pressure. The 261 actuators, controlled precisely down to 0.01 N level, together with 3 fixed points maintains the optical figure of the primary mirror. The extra-force exerted by wind pressure, however, pushes the actuator pistons to cause their displacement ...

Impact of wind on strength and deformation of solar photovoltaic modules

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
Maritime transport is one of the most important modes of transportation and plays an important role in facilitating world trade. In recent years, the maritime transport industry has been required to comply with "low carbon" policies. To meet the "low carbon shipping" policies, solar energy as a source of renewable energy has attracted more attention in

On-line detection of winding deformation

Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2005
The problem of on-line control of deformations of transformers windings is stated and a method for their diagnostics is offered. The analysis of the reasons for failures due to this problem is presented. An opportunity for simultaneous diagnostics of many other parameters is also shown.

Online assessment of winding deformation based on optimised excitation

2010 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems, 2010
On line assessment of winding deformation in a power transformer can be performed via a bushing tap excitation with optimized high frequency excitation. A benchmark layer winding is used to validate the use of the specific high frequency excitation. Axial displacement, compression and buckling of the winding are simulated and the changes identified ...

Deformation of the geomagnetic field by the solar wind

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1964
From the three-dimensional numerical solution to the Chapman-Ferraro problem of a steady solar wind perpendicularly incident upon a dipole field, a simple spherical harmonic description of the distorted field is obtained. From this, a three-dimensional picture of the field line configuration within the magnetosphere is given.

Deformation simulation and analysis of power transformer windings

2016 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC), 2016
Power transformers are critical in power systems and the stable operation of power transformers is a vital guarantee of system stability. However, with the development of capacity and voltage level, the external short-circuit fault threats the stable and secure operation of power transformers more seriously than ever before.

On-line monitoring of winding deformation of power transformer

Proceedings of 2001 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM 2001). 2001 Asian Conference on Electrical Insulating Diagnosis (ACEID 2001). 33rd Symposium on Electrical and Electronic Insulating Materials and Applications in System, 2002
The feasibility of estimating transformer winding deformation by measuring short-circuit reactance is expounded. Based on the theoretical research, the on-line measurement system for short-circuit reactance of a transformer is proposed. The study on a power transformer in actual operating condition shows that the on-line method is satisfactory for ...

Frontogenesis by Horizontal Wind Deformation Fields

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1966
Abstract Bergeron first suggested that atmospheric frontogenesis is caused by horizontal wind deformation fields acting on pre-existing horizontal temperature gradients. A three-dimensional time-dependent mathematical model of the atmosphere which incorporates this process through the initial conditions and boundary conditions is formulated ...

Monitoring of transformer winding deformation by CPRA method

2012 IEEE International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis, 2012
In this paper new method for transformer winding statement have been considered. The practical results of defect location in the insulation of high voltage equipment in laboratory and real substations conditions are presented and discussed. Theoretical background and technical implementation of the method of CPRA (Corona Pulses Response Analysis ...

Transformer winding diagnostics using deformation coefficient

2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2008
This work presents the use of terminal capacitance measurements to detect deformations in transformer windings. The lumped parameter representation of windings is considered. The deformation coefficient (DC) derived from the measurements is used to detect winding deformations. The extent and location of deformation can also be determined by this method.
