Seasonal wing dimorphism and life cycle of the mole cricket Gryllotalpa orientalis (Orthoptera: Gryllotalpidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2006
Control of seasonal wing dimorphism in the oriental mole cricket Gryllotalpa orientalis Brumeister (1839) from a wetland habitat in western Japan is described.

First Record of Arrhenophagus chionaspidis Aurivillius (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) Parasitizing White Mango Scale in Kenya: Its Potential Distribution and Prospects in Biocontrol

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The white mango scale, Aulacaspis tubercularis Newstead (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), is one of the most destructive pests of mango worldwide. Its current management in most of the invaded areas largely depends on the intensive use of chemical insecticides.

The influence of pupal colour on diapause and post‐diapause success in the swallowtail butterfly Papilio machaon

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
The swallowtail butterfly Papilio machaon has a brown‐ and green‐coloured morph, with the brown being more common in the diapausing generation. The darker colouration of brown pupae did not confer advantages for thermoregulation when developing, but they did have lower diapause metabolic rates.

Size variation in the Mute Swan Cygnus olor

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal
Sexual dimorphism in body size is a well-known phenomenon in the Mute Swan Cygnus olor, likely influenced by different selection pressures associated with its bi-parental care system. This study investigates geographic differences in morphological traits

Postembryonic development of the predatory strike mechanics in a praying mantis (Insecta: Mantodea)

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 377-396, September 2026.
Praying mantis forelegs capture prey using specific kinematic and kinetic traits that change in size and morphology during postembryonic growth and sexual dimorphism influences these dynamics. Strike forces grow hyperallometrically with body weight; larger mantises show longer strike durations, slower joint angular velocities and increased tibia ...

Sexual dimorphism of Colorado beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in the west and northwest of Iran by geometric morphometric method

open access: yesتاکسونومی و بیوسیستماتیک, 2014
The males and females of Colorado beetles do not reveal clear dimorphism and therefore they have high resemblance so that recognition of the sexes by simple eye is too difficult.

Geometric morphometric differences between Panstrongylus geniculatus from field and laboratory

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
The finding of Panstrongylus geniculatus nymphs inside a house in northeastern Antioquia, Colombia, and the reports related to their increasing presence in homes suggest the need for surveillance methods for monitoring the invasion processes. We analyzed

Broadening the semiaquatic scene: Quantification of long bone microanatomy across pinnipeds

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 8, Page 2124-2150, August 2026.
Abstract Investigations of bone microanatomy are commonly used to explore lifestyle strategies in vertebrates. While distinct microanatomical limb bone features have been established for exclusively aquatic and terrestrial lifestyles, identifying clear patterns for the semiaquatic lifestyle remains more challenging.
