Moisture Effects on the Dimensional Stability of Bistable Carbon/Epoxy Laminates

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Experimental and numerical approach for studying moisture effects on composite dimensional stability. ABSTRACT Bistable composite laminates are attractive because they can switch between two stable shapes without continuous energy input, enabling applications in morphing structures and energy harvesting devices.

Road air pollution harms the reproductive success of a bee‐pollinated wildflower: A dusty threat to biodiversity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Dust, a common form of air pollution, is particularly problematic on roadsides, which are important habitats for plants and pollinators. We investigated whether and how road dust affects plant sexual reproduction using Primula chungensis in a biodiversity hotspot. Our study provides compelling evidence that road dust can harm plant reproductive success

Take flight: predation risk induces wing polyphenism and dispersal in the aphid Myzus persicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Predator risk above a critical density induces winged morphs in Myzus persicae, promoting dispersal and reducing predation compared with wingless aphids. This density‐dependent phenotypic plasticity enhances survival but may compromise biological control by facilitating aphid dispersal.

Aerodynamic Shape Optimization of Airplane Winglet & Investigation Into Morphing Winglet Technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
While airplane design has been carefully crafted, there is always room for improvement. One debated topic within the aerospace industry is which fixed airfoil winglet design best increases lift while decreasing drag.

Sliding Mode Control in Aerospace Applications: A Survey

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sliding mode control (SMC) enjoys robustness to matched and unmatched (in the case of minimum phase input‐output dynamics) bounded perturbations, and finite time convergence. Second‐order and higher‐order sliding mode control systems (2‐SMC/HOSMC) retain all the advantages of sliding mode control, but in addition can be applied to systems of ...

Modeling and Optimization for Morphing Wing Concept Generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This report consists of two major parts: 1) the approach to develop morphing wing weight equations, and 2) the approach to size morphing aircraft. Combined, these techniques allow the morphing aircraft to be sized with estimates of the morphing wing ...

Research on Optimal Morphing Strategies for Multi-Performance of UAV

open access: yesMachines
The flying-wing configuration offers inherent advantages in aerodynamic efficiency and stealth; however, conventional fixed-wing designs face fundamental performance trade-offs when tasked with multi-role missions.

Actuation Strategies for Underwater Jet‐Propelled Soft Robots

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review article examines jet‐propulsion mechanisms in underwater soft robotic systems, focusing exclusively on physically fabricated and experimentally validated robots. Covering research published from 2013 to 2025, this study classifies and evaluates jet‐propulsion robots based on their actuation mechanisms.
