Substrate-borne vibration in Pacific field cricket courtship displays [PDF]
While thought to be widely used for animal communication, substrate-borne vibration is relatively unexplored compared to other modes of communication.

Seasonal polyphenism in Eristalis pertinax (Diptera: Syrphidae)
Eristalis pertinax varies seasonally, with the spring morph more hairy than the summer morph. We measured the size and the venation of the wings of the seasonal morphs.

Background Most aphids exhibit wing polyphenism in which wingless and winged morphs produce depending on the population density and host plant quality.

De novo transcriptome assembly from fat body and flight muscles transcripts to identify morph-specific gene expression profiles in Gryllus firmus. [PDF]
Wing polymorphism is a powerful model for examining many aspects of adaptation. The wing dimorphic cricket species, Gryllus firmus, consists of a long-winged morph with functional flight muscles that is capable of flight, and two flightless morphs.

Colour polymorphism associated with a gene duplication in male wood tiger moths
Colour is often used as an aposematic warning signal, with predator learning expected to lead to a single colour pattern within a population. However, there are many puzzling cases where aposematic signals are also polymorphic.

Optimal Elastic Wing for Flapping-Wing Robots Through Passive Morphing
Flapping wing robots show promise as platforms for safe and efficient flight in near-human operations, thanks to their ability to agile maneuver or perch at a low Reynolds number. The growing trend in the automatization of these robots has to go hand in hand with an increase in the payload capacity.

AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF MORPHING WING.
This thesis presents a modelling and design exploration study of a novel twisting wing whose motion is enabled by a tensegrity mechanism. First, the aerodynamic characteristics of the twisting wing, which does not require control surfaces to modulate its shape, are compared with those of a conventional wing having a control surface.

Wing dimorphism is a widespread phenomenon in insects with an associated trade-off between flight capability and fecundity. Despite the molecular underpinnings of phenotypic plasticity that has already been elucidated, it is still not fully understood ...

Morphing wing design using integrated and distributed trailing edge morphing
Abstract The presented study investigates the design and development of an autonomous morphing wing concept developed in the scope of the SmartX project, which aims to demonstrate in-flight performance optimisation with active morphing.
