A beam resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation
Computers & Structures, 1995Abstract A general method for the analysis of the deflection of an elastic straight beam resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation is presented. Using Newton's method and the Finite Element Method, a numerical method has been developed that finds the solution and has a quadratical rate of convergence.

Efficient 3D nonlinear Winkler model for shallow foundations
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2009This paper presents a new practical modeling approach, based on the beam-on-a-nonlinear Winkler foundation (BNWF) model, to simulate the 3D rocking, vertical and horizontal responses of shallow foundations using structural elements that are readily available in the element library of commercially available structural analysis programs. An assemblage of

Vibrating Beam Partially Embedded in Winkler‐Type Foundation
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1987The fundamental frequency of transverse vibration of a beam with intermediate supports and partially embedded in a Winkler-type foundation is determined using the Rayleigh-Schmidt approach. The displacement function is approximated using polynomials that contain an exponential optimization parameter.

DBEM Analysis of Beams on Modified Elastoplastic Winkler Foundation
1991The problem of a beam on an elastoplastic Winkler medium is handled using a general Direct Boundary Element Method approach. The case of concentrated internal loading is considered, and the governing equations are obtained both following the classic beam subdivision approach and considering the beam loaded by a family of Dirac delta distributions and ...

The improved foundation modulus for the use of Winkler foundation
2010 International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2010An improved calculating method for the foundation modulus of Winkler foundation is presented in this paper. The calculating results of foundation modulus respectively from Biot's and Vesic's model are different greatly through the analysis to the two methods.

Beam‐Column Element on Weak Winkler Foundation
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989In this study an efficient beam-column on elastic foundation was derived using the exact displacement function obtained from the solution of the governing differential equation. The stiffness matrix and nodal load vector of the element are derived explicitly, and the detailed equations for the determination of the deflected shape, shearing force, and ...

Viscoelastic Winkler Foundation with Shear Interactions
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1961Concept of Pasternak-foundation, consisting of Winkler-foundation with shear interactions, is extended to case of viscoelastic behavior; formulation for vertical surface displacements due to creep and solutions for several loading cases are worked out; procedure to determine viscosity parameter and visco-compressibility parameter of vertical foundation

Interpolation-Element for Beam on Winkler Elastic Foundation
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013On the basis of the deformation characteristics of Euler and Timoshenko beams on Winkler elastic foundation, the displacement shape functions were created. Lagrange interpolation function was used for the deformation in the axial direction, and Hermite interpolation function was applied in the bending direction.

Methodology to Evaluate First Transition Foundation Stiffness for Columns on Winkler Foundation
Journal of Structural Engineering, 2002A methodology is developed in this paper to evaluate the first transition foundation stiffness for columns subjected to end concentrated loads, on a Winkler foundation, where the buckling mode shape changes. The method is based on earlier work of Naidu and Rao to predict the fundamental frequency of beam columns, wherein it was assumed that the mode ...

Unilateral plate contact with the elastic-plastic winkler-type foundation
Computers & Structures, 1991Abstract In this work contact problems of a plate with the elastic-plastic Winkler-type foundation has been solved. An unilateral character of bonds between plate and foundation has been taken into consideration. The effect of friction forces in the contact plane has been neglected and an incremental approach has been applied.
