Analysis of beams on nonlinear winkler foundation

Computers & Structures, 1989
Abstract The analysis of beams on Winkler foundations is very common in engineering. In many practical problems nonlinear foundation behavior should be considered. Based on an exact solution for a finite beam on a linear elastic foundation an iterative procedure for a piecewise linear foundation is formulated.

A beam resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation

Computers & Structures, 1995
Abstract A general method for the analysis of the deflection of an elastic straight beam resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation is presented. Using Newton's method and the Finite Element Method, a numerical method has been developed that finds the solution and has a quadratical rate of convergence.

Beams on nonlinear winkler foundation with gaps

Computers and Geotechnics, 1988
Abstract The analysis of beams on a Winkler foundation is very common in engineering. In many practical problems nonlinear foundation behavior should be considered. In some cases a gap may exist between the beam and the nonlinear foundation. Based on an exact solution for a finite beam on linear elastic foundation, an iterative procedure for a ...

The improved foundation modulus for the use of Winkler foundation

2010 International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2010
An improved calculating method for the foundation modulus of Winkler foundation is presented in this paper. The calculating results of foundation modulus respectively from Biot's and Vesic's model are different greatly through the analysis to the two methods.

DBEM Analysis of Beams on Modified Elastoplastic Winkler Foundation

1991
The problem of a beam on an elastoplastic Winkler medium is handled using a general Direct Boundary Element Method approach. The case of concentrated internal loading is considered, and the governing equations are obtained both following the classic beam subdivision approach and considering the beam loaded by a family of Dirac delta distributions and ...

Performance of Rocking Shallow Foundations and the Evolution of Beam-on-Nonlinear-Winkler Foundation Modeling

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2022
The nonlinear behavior of shallow bridge and building foundations under large-amplitude seismic loading is an important aspect of performance-based earthquake engineering. Soil yielding beneath foundations can be an effective energy dissipation mechanism; however, this yielding may lead to excessive permanent deformations.

Statistical analysis of a circular plate on a random winkler foundation

Computers & Structures, 1993
Statistical analysis of the problem of a circular plate on a random Winkler support is presented using the small fluctuation approximation technique. In particular, we consider the specific case of an infinite circular plate loaded by a uniform circumferential load.

Viscoelastic Winkler Foundation with Shear Interactions

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1961
Concept of Pasternak-foundation, consisting of Winkler-foundation with shear interactions, is extended to case of viscoelastic behavior; formulation for vertical surface displacements due to creep and solutions for several loading cases are worked out; procedure to determine viscosity parameter and visco-compressibility parameter of vertical foundation

THE PASTERNAK FOUNDATION An Attractive Alternative for the Winkler Foundation

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
In this paper the Pasternak Foundation model is described. In this two parameter model the reaction of the foundation is determined by a vertical spring constant k (the modulus of subgrade reaction in the Winkler Foundation) in combination with a parameter k0 which can be seen as a horizontal linkage of the vertical springs (comparable to the function ...
