Bicycle rolling resistance under winter conditions [PDF]

open access: yesCold Regions Science and Technology, 2021
In many cold regions of the world, the percentage of trips made by bicycle drops drastically during the winter months. To facilitate increased bicycle usage during the winter, we studied the effect of typical winter conditions on bicycle rolling ...

RESISTANCE OF WINTER WHEATS TO HESSIAN FLY

Canadian Journal of Research, 1937
Stage of growth at the time of the spring emergence of the Hessian fly appears to account for the differential resistance of varieties of winter wheat at Saanichton, British Columbia. Varieties more advanced in growth appear to be more resistant or freer from infestation than varieties less advanced.

Greenbug Resistance Studies in Winter Wheat

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1958
A method is described for screening winter wheat hybrids for resistance to the greenbug, Toxoptera graminum (Rond.). Of 1,026 F2 plants screened, which were grown from resistant susceptible crosses, 28 showed considerable resistance and were grown to maturity in the greenhouse.

Resistance of Beauharnois Canal in Winter

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1982
The flow in an ice-affected river can be calculated using the open-water Chezy equation and ignoring the presence of ice if a corrective coefficient for Chezy's C is introduced to take into account the ice effects. Analysis of the data from the Beauharnois Canal shows that the corrective coefficient follows a well-defined trend during the ice season ...

Slip resistance of oil resistant and non-oil resistant footwear outsoles in winter conditions

Safety Science, 2005
The current European standards for professional footwear require that the outsoles of safety and protective footwear are oil resistant. Because of this obligatory requirement, non-oil resistant materials cannot be used as outsoles in professional footwear even if some of them have been found to be more slip resistant in winter conditions than oil ...

Fungicide Resistance Strategies in Winter Wheat in The Netherlands

1992
Disease control in winter wheat in the Netherlands may be based on a seed treatment, a spray against eyespot and two foliar sprays against leaf and ear diseases. Fungicides which inhibit sterol biosynthesis (SBIs) are rarely used in seed treatments but are used to a limited extent against eyespot (prochloraz) and are essential for control of leaf and ...
