Effects of Pre-, Post- and Intra-Exercise Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on Performance and Recovery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
Background: As a World Anti-doping Agency (WADA)-approved treatment, hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy has been used to improve exercise performance in sports practice. Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of pre-, post-, and intra-exercise HBO2 ...

Recrystallization and damage of ice in winter sports [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2017
Ice samples, after sliding against a steel runner, show evidence of recrystallization and microcracking under the runner, as well as macroscopic cracking throughout the ice. The experiments that produced these ice samples are designed to be analogous to sliding in the winter sport of skeleton.

Submicron Metasurface Reconfigured Multiband Smart Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a submicron metasurface reconfigured multiband thermochromic smart window. By integrating subwavelength nanostructures into a Fabry−Perot resonator configuration, it mitigates conventional trade‐offs to simultaneously deliver high luminous transmittance and robust solar heating and radiative cooling modulation capabilities ...

Programmable 3D Photovoltaics via Mechanically Origami‐Coded Interlocked 3D Kirigami and Nano‐Root Anchored AgNWs–In–Ga Multiphasic Alloy Conductor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically origami‐coded 3D kirigami photovoltaics convert a single extension–release cycle into deterministic self‐folding, reconfiguring planar solar cells into programmable 3D modules. Distinct coding strategies enable either ultrahigh stretchability (500% system strain) or ultrahigh initial effective areal coverage (225%).

Effects of Acute Exercise and Training on the Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ Release and Uptake Rates in Highly Trained Endurance Athletes

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
Little is presently known about the effects of acute high-intensity exercise or training on release and uptake of Ca2+ by the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR).

Elite skiers' experiences of heat‐ and moisture‐exchanging devices and training and competition in the cold: A qualitative survey

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, 2023
Background and Aims Winter endurance athletes have a high prevalence of exercise‐induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and asthma, probably due to repeated and prolonged inhalation of cold and dry air.

Toward a Unified Mechanistic Understanding of Polymer Electrolytes for Advanced Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes (PEs) are often indiscriminately grouped as “solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs)”, despite fundamental differences in their ion‐transport mechanisms. This Perspective establishes a mechanism‐based framework that distinguishes gel, quasi‐solid, and all‐solid polymer electrolytes based on their dominant ion‐transport pathways.
