Stratigraphy, sedimentation and age of the upper cretaceous Winton formation, central-western Queensland, Australia: implications for regional palaeogeography, palaeoenvironments and Gondwanan palaeontology

open access: green, 2023
The mid-Cretaceous Winton Formation is one of Australia's most important sources of Mesozoic terrestrial fossils. In recent years it has produced some of the continent's most significant body and trace fossil records of mid-Cretaceous dinosaurian and crocodilian assemblages.

A new species of Protophyllocladoxylon from the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian–Turonian) portion of the Winton Formation, central-western Queensland, Australia [PDF]

open access: closedReview of Palaeobotany and Palynology, 2014
Leaf floras in fluvial-lacustrine sediments of the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian-Turonian) portion of the Winton Formation suggest a community with co-dominance of angiosperms, conifers, ginkgo and other seed plants. To date wood floras associated with the Winton Formation have not been examined in detail.

Investigating the stratigraphy and palaeoenvironments for a suite of newly discovered mid-Cretaceous vertebrate fossil-localities in the Winton Formation, Queensland, Australia [PDF]

open access: closedSedimentary Geology, 2017
The Winton Formation of central Queensland is recognized as a quintessential source of mid-Cretaceous terrestrial faunas and floras in Australia. However, sedimentological investigations linking fossil assemblages and palaeoenvironments across this unit remain limited.

Depositional Environment of the Lower Cretaceous (Upper Albian) Winton Formation At Isisford, Central-West Queensland, Australia, Inferred From Sandstone Concretions

open access: closedJournal of Sedimentary Research, 2016
Numerous vertebrate and plant fossils have been found in ex-situ sandstone concretions near Isisford in central-west Queensland since the mid-1990s. These concretions are found in the Lower Cretaceous portion (upper Albian, 100.5–102.2 Ma) of the Winton Formation.

open access: yesPeerJ, 2021
A new giant sauropod, Australotitan cooperensis gen. et sp. nov., represents the first record of dinosaurs from the southern-central Winton Formation of the Eromanga Basin, Australia.

The dentary of Australovenator wintonensis (Theropoda, Megaraptoridae); implications for megaraptorid dentition [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2015
Megaraptorid theropods were an enigmatic group of medium-sized predatory dinosaurs, infamous for the hypertrophied claw on the first manual digit. Megaraptorid dentition is largely restricted to isolated teeth found in association with skeletal parts ...

Ornithopod diversity in the Griman Creek Formation (Cenomanian), New South Wales, Australia [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
During the Early Cretaceous, dinosaur communities of the Australian-Antarctic rift system (Eumeralla and Wonthaggi formations) cropping out in Victoria were apparently dominated by a diverse small-bodied ‘basal ornithopod’ fauna.

Isisfordia molnari sp. nov., a new basal eusuchian from the mid-Cretaceous of Lightning Ridge, Australia [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
The Australian Mesozoic crocodyliform record is sparse in comparison to other Gondwanan localities. A single formally-named taxon is known from this interval; Isisfordia duncani (Winton Formation, Albian–Turonian, Queensland).
