An Overview of Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM)

2021
WEDM is not a traditional machining process. The process is based on a thermo-electrical energy system. In this process, any mechanical connection between the electrode (wire) and the workpiece is not required for cutting any object. To establish a contact within the wire and the work object, different dielectric fluids are used.

Machining of low electrical conductive materials by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM)

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004
Abstract This theoretical and experimental study of WEDM of low conductive materials demonstrates that total electrical resistance between the workpiece and wire electrode vary during machining depending upon the clamping position. This change in resistance causes a change in material removal rate (MRR) and average surface roughness that leads to ...

Acoustic Monitoring of Stability and Productivity of Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM)

2020 International Multi-Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies (FarEastCon), 2020
The field of application of electrical discharge (ED) processing is rapidly expanding that is associated with the rapidly increasing demand for parts made of hard-to-machine materials. In this paper, possibilities of increasing the stability and performance of the ED process via continuous monitoring of acoustic emission (AE) signals accompanying the ...

State of the art in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM)

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2004
Abstract Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a specialised thermal machining process capable of accurately machining parts with varying hardness or complex shapes, which have sharp edges that are very difficult to be machined by the main stream machining processes.

Supervised Machine Learning in Wire Cut Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM)

2020
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) technology has grown tremendously since it was first introduced about 40 years back. In 1974, D. H. Dulebohn applied the optical-line follower system to automatically control the shape of the components to be machined by the WEDM process.

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) analysis into MRR and SR on copper alloy

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) is a widely accepted non-traditional material removal process for manufacturing of components with intricate shapes. Wire electric discharge machining is assessed on basic of metal removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (Ra).

Fabrication of miniaturized Schottky emitter by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM)

Microelectronic Engineering, 2008
The Schottky emitter is extensively used in scanning electron beam lithography machines because of its high brightness and stable current. For its use in parallel electron beam lithography to increase the throughput, we are investigating the possibility of creating an array of miniaturized Schottky emitters.

Optimization of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process parameters using Taguchi method

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2006
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is extensively used in machining of conductive materials when precision is of prime importance. Rough cutting operation in WEDM is treated as a challenging one because improvement of more than one machining performance measures viz.
