Optimal Clustering in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks: Acoustic, EM and FSO Communication Compliant Technique

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
With a wide scope for exploration and research, underwater wireless sensor network (UWSN) is a fast growing research area in current scenario. UWSNs need energy efficient designing approach, because underwater sensor nodes are battery driven.

Blind Synchronization in Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks

IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2017
The challenge of blindly resynchronizing the data acquisition processes in a wireless acoustic sensor network (WASN) is addressed in this paper. The sampling rate offset (SRO) is precisely modeled as a time scaling. The applicability of a wideband correlation processor for estimating the SRO, even in a reverberant and multiple source environment, is ...

Wireless, acoustically linked, undersea, magnetometer sensor network

OCEANS 2009, 2009
This paper presents a magnetometer sensor node design that consists of a He3 nuclear precession total-field magnetometer, data acquisition and recording electronics, and acoustic modem for networking such nodes. Expounding, we describe the integration of an ultra-sensitive magnetometer with the support electronics just mentioned.

Acoustic counting algorithms for wireless sensor networks

Proceedings of the 6th ACM symposium on Performance evaluation of wireless ad hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks, 2009
This study presents two algorithms that count birds with wireless sensors equipped with microphones. Audio inputs are parametrized to get some kind of fingerprints which are used to recognize the song of the birds in a classification process. Afterward, counting algorithms derive an estimate of the number of singing birds in the habitat.

Acoustic Localization Algorithm Using Wireless Sensor Networks

2009 Second International Conference on Intelligent Computation Technology and Automation, 2009
This paper proposes a distributed acoustic passive localization method using WSN. First, head nodes compute the azimuth angle and pitch angle based on the time delay of arrival (TDOA) from each participating WSN nodes in clusters. Second, the location of acoustic source is calculated from the angles measured above and geometry positions of the two ...

Relative Acoustic Transfer Function Estimation in Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks

IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2019
In this paper, we present an algorithm to estimate the relative acoustic transfer function RTF of a target source in wireless acoustic sensor networks WASNs. Two well-known methods to estimate the RTF are the covariance subtraction CS method and the covariance whitening CW approach, the latter based on the generalized eigenvalue decomposition.

Acoustic self-localization of a wireless sensor network

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2005
One of the biggest challenges to the field of wireless sensor networks is self-localization: that is the determination of the relative and absolute coordinates of each sensor node in the network. Previous work has been done to locate hydrophone arrays. However sensor networks have some unique constraints that make this more challenging.

Deployment analysis of underwater acoustic wireless sensor networks

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
In this paper, underwater sensor nodes and gateway nodes deployment strategies for two-dimensional communication architecture in Underwater Acoustic Wireless Sensor Networks(UWSNs) are proposed. In the sensor nodes deployment strategy, underwater sensor nodes are deployed in two rows along the coastline, which is of complete coverage and connectivity ...

Coding and Enhancement in Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks

2015 Data Compression Conference, 2015
We formulate a new problem which bridges between source coding and enhancement in wireless acoustic sensor networks. We consider a network of wireless microphones, each of which encoding its own measurement under a covariance matrix distortion constraint and sending it to a fusion center.

Acoustic source localization in noisy wireless sensor networks

IET 2nd International Conference on Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (ICWMMN 2008), 2008
Target localization is one of the typical applications of wireless sensor networks. However, there are few localization algorithms addressing the problems caused by both the noisy wireless channels and the limited sensing range and energy of sensor nodes.
