Elevated plasma testosterone concentrations from males on testosterone replacement therapy are mitigated with pathogen reduction technology

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 65, Issue 3, Page 524-530, March 2025.
Abstract Background Donors on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may require frequent whole blood donation due to erythrocytosis, but FDA guidelines prevent the transfusion of plasma‐based products from these donors. The pupillary respiratory‐phase response: pupil size is smallest around inhalation onset and largest during exhalation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 6, Page 1607-1625, 15 March 2025.
Abstract figure legend Across five experiments including 203 participants and a wide range of experimental conditions we demonstrate that pupil size fluctuates in a systematic manner over the course of the breathing cycle. Specifically, we show that pupil size is largest during exhalation and smallest around inhalation onset.

Sex‐specific differences in mortality and neurocardiac interactions in the Kv1.1 knockout mouse model of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP)

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The Kcna1 knockout mouse model of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) exhibits sex‐specific differences in SUDEP risk. Female mice exhibit a lower SUDEP risk than males, despite similar seizure characteristics and interictal cardiac function across sexes.
