The withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement and its impact on global climate change governance

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research, 2017
The global community has prepared for the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement since Donald Trump was elected as the president of the U.S. However, Trump's formal declaration of withdrawal still caused worldwide reaction.

Next‐Generation Bio‐Reducible Lipids Enable Enhanced Vaccine Efficacy in Malaria and Primate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Structure–activity relationship (SAR) optimization of bio‐reducible ionizable lipids enables the development of highly effective lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mRNA vaccines. Lead LNPs show superior tolerability and antibody responses in rodents and primates, outperforming approved COVID‐19 vaccine lipids.

In-Situ Assessment of Structural Timber Density Using Non-Destructive and Semi-Destructive Testing

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
Both non-destructive and semi-destructive tests can potentially be very efficient methods for the assessment of structural timber density. This paper describes an investigation into the suitability of three techniques: core drilling, probing, and screw ...

Tunable Coordination Number in Non‐Metal‐Introduced Copper Catalysts Enables High‐Performance Electrochemical CO2 Reduction to C2 Products

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Copper catalysts introduced with different non‐metallic elements regulating the coordination number of Cu are prepared by magnetron sputtering. Reducing the Cu coordination number enhances C─C coupling and boosts C2+ product selectivity, by lowering the energy barrier for the *CO → *CHO conversion step. The optimized Si‐doped Cu catalyst achieves a C2+

Influence of screw angle and position on the extraction dynamics of Cross-Laminated Timber: an empirical analysis and comparative modeling study

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
The design of dowel-type fastener connections is crucial for the structural integrity of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) systems, with individual fastener anchorage capacity as a key factor. This study investigates the withdrawal performance of Self-Tapping

Sulindac sulfide reverses aberrant self-renewal of progenitor cells induced by the AML-associated fusion proteins PML/RARalpha and PLZF/RARalpha [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Chromosomal translocations can lead to the formation of chimeric genes encoding fusion proteins such as PML/RARalpha, PLZF/RARalpha, and AML-1/ETO, which are able to induce and maintain acute myeloid leukemia (AML). One key mechanism in leukemogenesis is

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

The persistent vegetative state: legal and ethical issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Recent advances in technology and medical expertise have enabled doctors to prolong the lives of many severely injured patients who only a few years ago would have died from their injuries. The prolongation of life by such measures has raised many legal,

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.
