A maize near‐isogenic line population designed for gene discovery and characterization of allelic effects

SUMMARY In this study, we characterized a panel of 1264 maize near‐isogenic lines (NILs), developed from crosses between 18 diverse inbred lines and the recurrent parent B73, referred to as nested NILs (nNILs). In this study, 888 of the nNILs were genotyped using genotyping‐by‐sequencing (GBS).

Fusarium spp. associated with asparagus crowns and the influence of the preplant fumigant metam‐sodium in Michigan crown nurseries

Metam‐sodium is commonly used as a preplant fumigant to reduce the presence of Fusarium spp. in asparagus crown nurseries in Michigan. However, in our study, Fusarium populations did not differ between fumigated and non‐fumigated nurseries, indicating that alternative strategies for controlling Fusarium spp. need exploration.

Abstract Sweetness is a main component of the table beet (Beta vulgaris L.) flavor profile and a key determinant of its market success for fresh consumption. Total dissolved solids (TDS) is a proxy for sugar content in produce and are easily measured through a refractometer, making TDS valuable in breeding programs focused on increasing sweetness.
