A maize near‐isogenic line population designed for gene discovery and characterization of allelic effects

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 122, Issue 5, June 2025.
SUMMARY In this study, we characterized a panel of 1264 maize near‐isogenic lines (NILs), developed from crosses between 18 diverse inbred lines and the recurrent parent B73, referred to as nested NILs (nNILs). In this study, 888 of the nNILs were genotyped using genotyping‐by‐sequencing (GBS).

Transcriptomic analysis of Asparagus officinalis cultivars with varying levels of freezing tolerance over fall acclimation and spring deacclimation periods

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) is an important vegetable crop in southern Ontario, Canada, where winter air and soil temperatures below 0°C are common. Consequently, cultivars growing in this area must possess winterhardiness and freezing tolerance

Fusarium spp. associated with asparagus crowns and the influence of the preplant fumigant metam‐sodium in Michigan crown nurseries

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 186, Issue 3, Page 323-333, May 2025.
Metam‐sodium is commonly used as a preplant fumigant to reduce the presence of Fusarium spp. in asparagus crown nurseries in Michigan. However, in our study, Fusarium populations did not differ between fumigated and non‐fumigated nurseries, indicating that alternative strategies for controlling Fusarium spp. need exploration.

Genetic diversity and population structure analysis in Asparagus officinalis

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
Asparagus cultivars grown worldwide are thought to have originated from a limited genetic base, however, selection has resulted in variation for climatic adaptation and other traits.

Host Metabolites in Asparagus–Fusarium Interaction: Mechanisms and Regulation

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 4, Page 923-942, May 2025.
Specific host metabolites regulate Fusarium pathogenicity by modulating fungal gene expression, growth, mycotoxin biosynthesis, enhancing asparagus defence responses and ultimately affecting disease severity. ABSTRACT Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is an important perennial vegetable crop cultivated worldwide.

Effects of microwave blanching conditions on the quality of green asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) butt segment

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 7, Issue 11, Page 3513-3519, November 2019., 2019
This study aims to assess the effects of blanching conditions on various indicators of the asparagus butt segment including the color, texture, the residual percentages of total phenolic, and free‐radical scavenging activity. The results showed that the total phenolic content of the fresh samples was significantly reduced by 53.43% ± 1.03 (8 min, 300 W)
