Unlocking the Potential of Thermal Post-Treatments: A Study on Odor Emission Control in Eucalyptus Wood Particleboard

open access: yesMolecules
Eucalyptus wood particleboard (EPB), commonly used in indoor decoration, releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can adversely affect indoor air quality and human health.

Mode switching in the nearby Mira-like variable R Doradus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We discuss visual observations spanning nearly 70 years of the nearby semiregular variable R Doradus. Using wavelet analysis, we show that the star switches back and forth between two pulsation modes having periods of 332 days and about 175 days, the ...

Health Damage and Repair Mechanism Related to Formaldehyde Released from Wood-based Panels

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Wood-based panels, which contain wood raw materials along with urea-formaldehyde (UF) or phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins, can increase the indoor air concentration of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde can stimulate the upper respiratory mucosa and cross-linking

Dimensional Stability of Board Manufactured with Wood-based Panel Laths

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
The overall objective was to use waste plywood and medium density fiberboard (MDF) to manufacture a new type of board. The dimensional stability of board was improved by mechanical inhibition between laths along the thickness direction.

Numerical modeling for adjustment of the equivalent moduli of elasticity of OSB layers estimated from experimental flexural rigidity

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Oriented strand board (OSB) panels are well-known for their many applications and as a complex multi-layer composite, which elastic properties are commonly obtained by testing the specimens for the longitudinal and transverse directions of the panel ...

The red tail of carbon stars in the LMC: Models meet 2MASS and DENIS observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Carbon stars are known to exhibit systematically redder near-infrared colours with respect to M-type stars. In the near-infrared colour-magnitude diagrams provided by the 2MASS and DENIS surveys, the LMC C-type stars draw a striking red tail, well ...

Update of the risk assessment of ‘wood flour and fibres, untreated’ (FCM No 96) for use in food contact materials, and criteria for future applications of materials from plant origin as additives for plastic food contact materials

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2019
The EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP) was asked by the European Commission to review whether the authorisation of ‘wood flour and fibres, untreated’ (FCM No 96) is still in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1935 ...

On the nature of the most obscured C-rich AGB stars in the Magellanic Clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The stars in the Magellanic Clouds with the largest degree of obscuration are used to probe the highly uncertain physics of stars in the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase of evolution.

Developing structural sandwich panels for energy-efficient wall applications using laminated oil palm wood and rubberwood-based plywood/oriented strand board

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2023
In this work, a new type of structural sandwich panels made with laminated oil palm wood core and rubberwood-based oriented strand board (OSB)/plywood faces were introduced for energy-efficient wall applications in Thailand.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
