Characteristics of chromated copper arsenate-treated wood ash

open access: yesJournal of Hazardous Materials, 2002
The combustion of recovered wood from construction and demolition waste as biomass fuel is a common practice. When chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood is present as part of the wood fuel mix, concentrations of arsenic, chromium, and copper become elevated in the ash.

Biomass and water use efficiency of chrysanthemum under organic, mineral, and organomineral fertilization [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental, 2023
Most soils are excessively acidic, which decreases the productive efficiency of plants. There are several ways to correct soil acidity to make nutrients available to crops.

Limited effect of wood ash application on soil quality as indicated by a multisite assessment of soil organic matter attributes

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2022
In Canada, the combustion of forest biomass for bioenergy production has been increasing with an associated increase in residual wood ash. Wood ash is typically landfilled as waste but there is growing interest in applying wood ash to the soils of ...

Solubilisation and colonisation of wood ash by ectomycorrhizal fungi isolated from a wood ash fertilised spruce forest [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Ecology, 2001
In Sweden application of granulated wood ash has been suggested as a method to supplement nutrient loss resulting from harvesting of forest residues for bioenergy production. Mycelia of two ectomycorrhizal fungi Piloderma sp. 1 and Ha-96-3, were commonly found to colonise ash granules in a wood ash fertilised spruce forest. Thirty-eight fungal isolates

Magnetic properties of wood ash

open access: yes, 2023
Magnetic enhancement of soils attracts for decades attention in environmental magnetism. Mechanisms of this enhancement have been discussed since sixties of the last century, when this effect was recognized mainly in archeological surveying. At present, the attention is paid mostly to topsoil magnetic enhancement.

Integrated management of ash from industrial and domestic combustion : a new sustainable approach for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy conversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This work supports, for the first time, the integrated management of waste materials arising from industrial processes (fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration and coal fly ash), agriculture (rice husk ash), and domestic activities (ash from wood

Short‐term growth response of jack pine and spruce spp. to wood ash amendment across Canada

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2020
Wood ash amendment to forest soils contributes to the sustainability of the growing bioenergy industry, not only through decreased wood ash waste disposal in landfills but also by increasing soil/site productivity and tree growth.

Contact Efficacy of Different Wood Ashes against Spanish Slug, Arion vulgaris (Gastropoda: Arionidae)

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The wood ash from seven plant species (sessile oak, European beech, European hornbeam, silver fir, European spruce, common alder, and Spanish chestnut) was tested against Spanish slug (Arion vulgaris) as an environmentally acceptable alternative to ...

Effects of Wood Ash Biomass Application on Growth Indices and Chlorophyll Content of Maize and Lima bean Intercrop

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology, 2017
Wood ash generated from wood industries have enormous potential which can be utilized due to its properties which influences soil chemistry and fertility status of tropical acidic soils. Field experiments were conducted on an acidic sandy loam alfisol to
