Effect of biomass ash in catalytic fast pyrolysis of pine wood

open access: yesApplied Catalysis B: Environmental, 2015
Fast pyrolysis experiments of pine wood have been performed in a continuously operated mechanically stirred bed reactor at 500°C. The effects of the pine wood ash were studied by comparing non-catalytic and catalytic experiments (using a ZSM-5 based catalyst) with their ash-added counterparts.

Limited effect of wood ash application on soil quality as indicated by a multisite assessment of soil organic matter attributes

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2022
In Canada, the combustion of forest biomass for bioenergy production has been increasing with an associated increase in residual wood ash. Wood ash is typically landfilled as waste but there is growing interest in applying wood ash to the soils of ...

Faecal-wood biomass co-combustion and ash composition analysis [PDF]

open access: yesFuel, 2017
Fuel blending is a widely used approach in biomass combustion, particularly for feedstocks with low calorific value and high moisture content. In on-site sanitation technologies, fuel blending is proposed as a pre-treatment requirement to reduce moisture levels and improve the physiochemical properties of raw faeces prior to drying.

Properties of Self-compacting Concrete Produced with Biomass Wood Ash [PDF]

open access: yesTehnicki vjesnik - Technical Gazette, 2021
The demand of the contemporary society for renewable energy sources lead to the increase of the bio-power plants. Accordingly, the amount of ash generated by burning the biomass is increased, and its disposal becomes a large environmental problem. The paper presents the research of potential use of biomass wood ash as a partial replacement for coal fly

Possibilities of Biomass Wood Ash Usage in Geopolymer Mixtures

open access: yesTehnicki vjesnik - Technical Gazette, 2023
This paper presents the results of testing the physical and mechanical properties and durability of geopolymer mixtures. Fly ash was used as the basic binder, while its replacement was performed with wood biomass ash.The initial and final setting time were tested on the geopolymer paste, while flow value and bulk density were tested on the fresh mortar.

Leaching Characteristics of Wood Biomass Fly Ash Cement Composites [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Wood biomass ash (WBA) represents an environmental and economic problem for energy producers, and there have been extensive studies of using WBA as a raw material in construction products. This study investigates the leaching characteristics of WBA cement composites based on testing results.

Utilization of Wood Biomass Ash in Concrete Industry

open access: yes, 2022
The use of energy from wood biomass plants results in the production of large quantities of wood biomass ash (WBA). Most of the WBA is disposed of and some are used as a soil supplement in agriculture. In the concrete industry, there is a high potential for substitution of certain components with suitable alternative materials.

Pretreatment of biomass pellets by acid washing in order to reduce alkaline components

open access: yesJournal of Chemists, Technologists and Environmentalists, 2022
Due to the limited availability of wood, as the highest quality raw material for the production of biomass pellets, increasing attention is being paid to the production and use of pellets from low-quality materials such as different types of ...

Mechanical properties of concrete containing wood biomass ash [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Renewable energy, together with environmentally-friendly materials, gives us an insight into a sustainable future – one where reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions are minimised. The leading source of renewable energy in the EU are biomass fuelled power plants.
