Characteristerization of Environment-Friendly Soils Stabilized with Biomass Wood Ash

open access: yesJournal of Korean Society of Hazard Mitigation, 2014

Strength and porosity characterizations of blended biomass wood ash-fly ash-based geopolymer mortar [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2018
This paper reports results of an investigation on the blended BWA-FA geopolymer mortars prepared by the inclusion of biomass wood ash (BWA) as a partial replacement material for fly ash (FA). The blended mortar systems were prepared at three replacement ratios of FA by BWA of 5%, 15% and 25% by binder mass.

Comparative field‐scale assessment of TLUD and Kon‐Tiki biochar systems: agronomic performance and net CO2e‐based techno‐economics

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Post‐harvest agricultural residues in Latin America are commonly underutilized, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and lost opportunities for bio‐based value creation. This study tests the hypothesis that decentralized, farmer‐scale pyrolysis technologies can deliver comparable agronomic benefits while exhibiting distinct techno‐economic and ...

Dense poplar plantations as the raw material for the production of energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The higher heating value of wood and bark was determined for several poplar (Populus spp) clones. The study included the juvenile one year old plants of the following clones: P.×euramericana cl. ostia, P. nigra cl.53/86, P. deltoides cl.

Alkali-Activation of Non-Wood Biomass Ash: Effects of Ash Characteristics on Concrete Performance [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Journal, 2017
Combustion of biomass is increasingly practiced for power generation. Unlike coal ash, the combustion ashes of biomass do not offer significant value in Portland cement concrete production. An experimental study was conducted in order to assess the value of the combustion ashes of different non-wood biomass types towards production of alkali activated ...

Life cycle assessment of biodiesel synthesis from waste cooking oil using bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The development of renewable energy sources is important in order to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Waste cooking oil (WCO) is a promising feedstock for biodiesel production through transesterification. Heterogeneous bifunctional catalysts offer a sustainable alternative to conventional homogeneous bases such ...

Senescent trees stabilize aboveground wood net primary production immediately after disturbance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In the United States, forests sequester 17% of national carbon (C) emissions annually (UGCRP, 2018), however shifting forest disturbances threaten the stability of this essential C sink.
