The gasification of wood chips in a steam-air blast is considered. The expected gas properties are calculated when using a steam-oxygen blast. The yield and composition of generator gas, the degree of steam decomposition, and the efficiency of gasification are determined. Applications are identified for the gas produced.

Extrusion Pretreatment of Pine Wood Chips
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2012Pretreatment is the first step to open up lignocellulose structure in the conversion of biomass to biofuels. Extrusion can be a viable pretreatment method due to its ability to simultaneously expose biomass to a range of disruptive conditions in a continuous flow process.

Influence of wood chip quality on emission behaviour in small-scale wood chip boilers
Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery, 2017The introduction of wood chips into the market for small-scale heating appliances of below 100 kW has become more challenging due to stricter regulations on emission levels for carbon monoxide and particle emission, e.g. in Germany. Therefore, it is important to identify high wood chip qualities that are suitable for failure-free and low-emission ...

Numerical Analysis of Wood Chipping
hfsg, 1997Normally, in pulp wood chipping, the chips desired are thinner and have less fiber damage than those currently being produced. However, experiments to develop chippers are rather laborious, so there is a need for a mathematical model to complement the experiments.

Chipping Citrus Wood for Gasification
Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 1986CITRUS trees, both green and dead, were chipped to provide a fuel source to make producer gas. Chip moisture content, fuel analysis, drying rate, and data on fuel/t of chips were obtained. The average moisture contents of the green and dead trees when chipped were 32% (w.b.) and 16% (w.b.), respectively.

The authors treat the control of a chip refiner to produce wood pulp, where the incremental gain between the motor load and the plate gap is subject to sudden changes due to pad collapse. Passive adaptive control with fault detection, active suboptimal dual control, and dual-control solutions are discussed.

A 52 year old farmer was referred to us for investigation of suspected farmer's lung. For many years the farmer had been exposed to hay, straw, pigeons, and fuel chip dust. Under exertion he suffered from shortness of breath. In the farmer's own fuel chips we could identify Aspergillus fumigatus, Paecilomyces species and Mucor species.
