Density of Wood

1996
Perhaps the single most important property controlling the mechanical performance of a piece of wood is its density. Density is the ratio of mass to volume.

The Genetics of Wood Density

1995
As will be evident in the following sections, the inheritance of wood density is uniformly strong. Most of the genetic variability is of the additive type, enabling good gains from a selection and breeding program as well as from a vegetative propagation program.

Density and shrinkage of old wood

Wood Science and Technology, 1979
Density and shrinkage were measured in samples of old wood preserved in a glacier, burial grounds, house settlements, harbour installations and ships sunk in the sea. Time of exposure ranged from about 300 to 100,000 years. Density was found reduced in most cases and shrinkage increased. In oak, density was reduced up to 0.13 gr/cm3 (at 12% m.c.) and a

A study of wood-plastic combinations based on low-density woods

Journal of Materials Science, 1976
Six low-density tropical woods were impregnated with various vinyl monomers and polymerized by irradiation with a60Co source. The wood-plastic combinations were subjected to standard tests of mechanical properties, and their fracture surfaces were studied by scanning electron microscopy.

Weathering of High-Density Polyethylene-Wood Plastic Composites

Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 2013
Due to widespread use of wood-plastic composites, high density polyethylene-wood flour composites (HDPE/WF) were studied in order to determine their stability in different application conditions. UV degradation and periodic absorption/desorption of moisture cause damaging changes to material during WPCs exterior application so it is needed to ensure ...
