Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Determination of wood strength properties through standard test procedures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this study a review of existing recognised standards for wood mechanical testing was conducted. This review considers tensile, compressive, bending and shear test methodologies from a range of sources.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Optical detection of beetle-related indicators and stem quality in roundwood using convolutional neural networks

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science
Accurate roundwood sorting is critical for improving resource efficiency in the timber industry. However, in many small sawmills, sorting is performed manually through visual inspection, often resulting in inconsistencies and misclassifications.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Printed circuit board substrates derived from lignocellulose nanofibrils for sustainable electronics applications

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study investigates lignocellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) as a sustainable alternative material for printed circuit board (PCB) substrates, demonstrating an application through the development of an eco-friendly computer mouse demonstrator.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

The use of wood for wind turbine blade construction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The interrelationships between moisture and wood, conditions for dry rot spore activity, the protection of wood fibers from moisture, wood resin composites, wood laminating, quality control, and the mechanical properties of wood are discussed.

Opportunistic use of a wool-like artificial material as lining of Tit (Paridae) nests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The lining material is a key element of bird nests primarily serving as insulation for the adult, eggs and/or chicks but collection of such material will have an energetic cost.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...
