Modeling the impacts of wood pellet demand on forest dynamics in southeastern United States

open access: yes, 2017
The export of wood pellets from the southeastern United States (USA) has grown significantly in recent years, following rising demand from Europe. Increased wood pellet demand could lead to spatially variable changes in timberland management and area in ...

Extra Climate Benefits From Afforestation Due to Reduced Forest Fragmentation in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Afforestation in China reduced forest fragmentation in 2015, transforming 51.8 M ha of edge forests into interior forests. This enhanced carbon sequestration (1.4±0.2 Pg CO2e, a cooling biogeochemical effect), while reduced albedo (−0.9 Pg CO2e, a warming biophysical effect) partially offset the gain, yielding a net extra climate benefit of ...

Impact of increased wood pellet demand on biodiversity in the south‐eastern United States

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2018
Increasing wood pellet exports from the United States are projected to lead to changes in land use and timberland management, including a shift from natural timberland to pine plantations. These projected changes may impact biodiversity.

PDIA6–SCD1 Axis Rewires Lipid Metabolism to Drive Gastric Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein disulfide isomerase A6 (PDIA6) is identified as an oncogenic driver in gastric cancer. PDIA6 directly binds and stabilizes SCD1 by limiting its ubiquitin–proteasome‐mediated degradation, thereby sustaining monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA)‐enriched lipid homeostasis and lipid metabolic reprogramming.

The application of pellets made from wood and agricultural waste as an alternative to fossil fuels [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The article presents an analysis of the prospects for replacing fossil fuels with pellets produced from wood and agricultural waste. The “waste-to-energy” approach means the thermal utilization of high-flammable or combustion-supporting waste components.

Slagging tendencies of wood pellet ash during combustion in residential pellet burners

open access: yesBiomass and Bioenergy, 2004
Ash related problems have more than occasionally been observed in pellet burners during the last years.

Closed‐Loop Radiative Cooling Mulch Upcycled From Agricultural Residues for Efficient Soil Heat–Water Stress Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional passive radiative cooling films rely on costly feedstocks and energy‐intensive fabrication, with poor end‐of‐life compatibility in agriculture. To address this challenge, a sustainable radiative cooling mulch (SRCM) is developed from waste maize leaves via spontaneous hydrogen‐bond self‐assembly.

The Spatiotemporal Genetic Architecture of Seed Vigor in Upland Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Leveraging the semi‐automated SeedRanger platform, we profiled the germination kinetics of 356 cotton accessions at a 30‐min interval. This high‐throughput phenomic approach delineated a temporal genetic network comprising 541 stage‐specific loci. Crucially, functional validation identified FLA2 as a pivotal, auxin‐modulated regulator that orchestrates

Assessing VOC Emission by Wood Pellets Using the PTR- ToF-MS Technology

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
Wood pellets are important fuel in heat and power production with a high potential to grow in the future. Pellets represent a well spread commodity for energy production in Europe with a rapidly increasing market.
