Journal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.This study tests whether early‐life maternal association buffers offspring from the effects of prenatal stress in a facultatively social lizard. Despite clear effects of maternal glucocorticoids on growth and social behaviour, social associations did not mitigate these effects, revealing limits to social buffering in this species.
