The Jonas Short Site (41SA101), San Augustine County, Texas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Jonas Short site (41SA101) is one of a few known and investigated Woodland period mounds in the Trans–Mississippi south (i.e., East Texas, Northwest Louisiana, Southwest Arkansas, and Southeast Oklahoma).

Differential Phase Contrast Imaging to Predict MSC Immune Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work employs quantitative differential phase contrast (qDPC) imaging technique to non‐invasively extract morphological features from live Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs) for single cell prediction on cell immunomodulatory capacity. This work establishes a foundation for scalable, non‐destructive monitoring of MSCs immunomodulatory capacity ...

Melanin-Based Coatings as Lead-Binding Agents

open access: yesBioinorganic Chemistry and Applications, 2012
Interactions between metal ions and different forms of melanin play significant roles in melanin biochemistry. The binding properties of natural melanin and related synthetic materials can be exploited for nonbiological applications, potentially ...

Trade-Offs in Means Tested Pension Design [PDF]

open access: yes
Inclusion of means testing into age pension programs allows governments to better direct benefits to those most in need and to control funding costs by providing flexibility to control the participation rate (extensive margin) and the benefit level ...

Therapeutic Implants: Mechanobiologic Enhancement of Osteogenic, Angiogenic, and Myogenic Responses in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells on 3D‐Printed Titanium Truss

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates a synergistic effect between 3D‐printed surface features and mechanical micro‐strain in enhancing the osteogenic, angiogenic, and myogenic responses of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Load‐induced mechanotransduction, facilitated by the implant's architectural design, significantly amplifies hMSC differentiation.

DNA Barcoding‐Enabled Tracking of Lipid Nanoparticles: Drug‐Loading‐Dependent Biodistribution and Tumor Microenvironment Targeting

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, lipid nanoparticles are tracked in vivo using DNA barcodes to determine how varying drug loadings affect their delivery behaviors in mice. A cost‐effective strategy is developed for simultaneously monitoring the biodistribution of a library of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs).

The cumulative measure of a force: A unified kinetic theory for rigid-sphere and inverse-square force law interactions

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2011
By introducing a cutoff on the cumulative measure of a force, a unified kinetic theory is developed for both rigid-sphere and inverse-square force laws.
