Woody flora as a predictor of vascular plant richness: An insight in Italy

open access: yesPlant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, 2014
A key problem in quantifying biodiversity is whether it is possible to infer the overall diversity using suitable data subsets. The aim of this article, based on the updated data on the native woody flora of Italy, is to evaluate the reliability of such data as a predictor of vascular plant richness at a medium scale represented by the 20 ...

Winter leaf loss in the New Zealand woody flora

New Zealand Journal of Botany, 2004
Abstract Approximately 27 species (c. 5%) of the New Zealand woody flora have a marked loss of leaves in winter, although only 10 species are consistently fully deciduous and no extensive vegetation type is dominated by them. There are no summer deciduous species.

A critical checklist of the woody flora of Tuscany (Italy)

open access: yes, 2016
A comprehensive checklist of the Tuscan woody flora providing sub-regional details is presented. This checklist comprises 412 taxa, of which 264 are native and 148 are non-native. Nine taxa new for the region were found, and eleven taxa were excluded from the regional flora. The native taxa belong to 109 genera and 53 families.

Ecological correlates of single-seededness in a woody tropical flora

Oecologia, 1992
A reduction in seed number per fruit is recognized as a common evolutionary trend among flowering plants. In order to evaluate the ecological role of single-seededness and its possible adaptive significance, we used van Roosmalen's (1985) descriptions of fruits for woody species in the Guianan flora to identify fruit and seed characters and dispersal ...
