EXPERIMENTS were begun some eighteen months ago to determine the fine structure of wool by X-ray analysis with the object of attempting to explain its elastic properties. Some intimation of the earlier results was given at the discussion on the properties of colloids at the Leeds meeting of the British Association in 1927.

Some wool follicle and crimp parameters in fine-wool Tasmanian merinos
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1969Samples of wool and skin taken from the same animals were observed in finewool Tasmanian Merinos. It was found that highly crimped wool is produced by small follicles, follicle size being measured by the length of the chord or of the arc. It was also found that in animals on a high level of nutrition, high wool growth rate is ...

HISTOSTRUCTURE OF THE SKIN OF FINE-WOOL SHEEP BREEDS WITH DIFFERENT FINENESS OF WOOL
Agrarian Bulletin of the North CaucasusThe article presents an analysis of histological indices of the skin of fine-wool sheep breeds with different wool fineness. 75 % of the Manych merino rams had a wool fiber diameter of up to 23.09 μm (quality 64), 16.7 % – up to 17.95 μm (quality 80) and 8.3 % – 19.09 μm (quality 70).

Studies on Wool-Eating Ailment in Guizhou Semi-Fine Wool Sheep
Agricultural Sciences in China, 2011Abstract The clinical symptoms of a disorder which is known locally as “wool-eating ailment” in Guizhou semi-fine wool sheep in the Weining County of Guizhou Province, China, are poor weight gain, lost appetite, pica, emaciation, and wool-eating. The mineral composition of forage, and samples of blood, liver and wool from Guizhou semi-fine wool sheep ...

Eighteen microsatellites on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 9 were studied to detect their genotypes in 206 individuals in a Liangshan Semi-fine Wool Sheep nucleus breeding population. A GLM procedure was used to analyze the effects of these 18 microsatellites on wool traits. Results uncovered 7 loci that had a significant impact on wool traits. Genotypes of that

SUMMARYInternal and external follicle diameters of both primary and secondary follicles of Texel x Ossimi and Merino x Barki ewes were greater, at birth, than those in either respective parent breed; the density of primary follicles at birth was less in the cross-breds than in the parental breeds, for both crosses.
