Correlations between growth and wool quality traits of genetically divergent Australian lambs in response to canola or flaxseed oil supplementation.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The correlations between growth and wool traits in response to canola and flaxseed oil supplementation were evaluated in Australian prime lambs. Sixty dual-purpose prime lambs including purebred Merino and crossbred lambs were allocated to one of five ...

Hair Follicle Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Differentially Expressed Genes That Regulate Wool Fiber Diameter in Angora Rabbits

open access: yesBiology, 2023
Wool fiber diameter (WFD) is an important index of wool traits and the main determinant of wool quality and value. However, the genetic determinants of fiber diameter have not yet been fully elucidated.

Production traits of tushin sheep il. milk and wool yield

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2001
This study has been carried out to determine the yield of milk and wool in Tushin sheep. Twenty Iwo sheep were used for milk yield in 1997 and 66 in 1998, For fleece weight 9 rams and 79 ewes were used in 1998. The overall means of milk yield, milk lat and lactation lenght were found as 75,24±0.36 kg.

Identification of quantitative trait loci for wool traits in Iranian Baluchi sheep

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2012
Regions on 3 ovine chromosomes (OAR1, 5 and 25) were selected to study quantitative trait loci (QTL) segregating for wool traits in Baluchi sheep, an indigenous sheep breed in Iran. Progenies (503) from 13 half-sib families were genotyped for 15 microsatellite markers. The average number of progeny per sire was 38 and ranged between 16 and Wool traits (

Origin, evolution and biogeographic dynamics of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Southwestern Europe

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

Rethinking brachycephaly: Anatomical implications and health considerations in lagomorphs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Brachycephaly in domestic rabbits is increasingly perceived by welfare organizations as associated with significant health complications, particularly oral pathologies. Despite this perception, comparative anatomical research into rabbit brachycephaly is limited compared to that of dogs and cats, compelling an in‐depth examination of its ...
