Effect of Model-Based Problem Solving on Error Patterns of At-Risk Students in Solving Additive Word Problems

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2023
Students with learning disabilities/difficulties in mathematics often apply ineffective procedures to solve word problems due to a lack of conceptual understanding of word problem solving, which results in poor mathematics performance and falling further

On the Minimal Uncompletable Word Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Let S be a finite set of words over an alphabet Sigma. The set S is said to be complete if every word w over the alphabet Sigma is a factor of some element of S*, i.e. w belongs to Fact(S*).

On real-time word problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is proved that the word problem of the direct product of two free groups of rank 2 can be recognised by a 2-tape real-time but not by a 1-tape real-time Turing machine.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.
