Word frequency in problem solving [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Psychonomic Society, 1974
In a modification of an earlier study, Ss were presented with problems consisting of five words varying in printed language frequency. In different groups, Ss tried to guess the Word at a particular frequency level in each problem. The words used within a problem were structurally more similar to each other than had been the case in the previous study.

Solving Math Word Problems with Reexamination

open access: yes, 2023
Math word problem (MWP) solving aims to understand the descriptive math problem and calculate the result, for which previous efforts are mostly devoted to upgrade different technical modules. This paper brings a different perspective of \textit{reexamination process} during training by introducing a pseudo-dual task to enhance the MWP solving.

Semantic congruence in arithmetic: A new conceptual model for word problem solving

open access: yes, 2020
Arithmetic problem solving is a crucial part of mathematics education. However, existing problem solving theories do not fully account for the semantic constraints partaking in the encoding and recoding of arithmetic word problems.
