Words are the building blocks of language, and visual word recognition is a crucial prerequisite for skilled reading. In this paper we describe the architecture of a Slovenian continuous speech recognizer. The procedures used within the development of the speech recognizer and the speech recognition experiments are described. For training and testing a Slovenian speech database is used which contains read air flight information retrieval sentences.
