Thai sentences consist of many words that are written consecutively with complicated rules that make word segmentation to be an arduous task. Thai word segmentation has been researched since the 1980s. Beginning with defining the scope of syllables, then developing techniques and algorithms to word segmentation using various methods that divided into ...

Infant‐Directed Speech Facilitates Word Segmentation
Infancy, 2005AbstractThere are reasons to believe that infant‐directed (ID) speech may make language acquisition easier for infants. However, the effects of ID speech on infants' learning remain poorly understood. The experiments reported here assess whether ID speech facilitates word segmentation from fluent speech.

Word and Character Segmentation
2021In the previous chapter, the methods for text detection from natural scene and video image are discussed. To recognize text, the methods require characters. Therefore, this chapter focuses on word and character segmentation based on the space between words and characters.

Identifying reduplicative words for Vietnamese word segmentation
The 2015 IEEE RIVF International Conference on Computing & Communication Technologies - Research, Innovation, and Vision for Future (RIVF), 2015This paper proposes a method based on linguistic word-formation rules and dictionaries for determining reduplicative words in Vietnamese. The key idea for identifying whether adjacent syllables in a text can form a reduplicative word based on its formation rules.

Journal of Travel Research, 2014
Most tourists love to share their holiday experiences with family, friends, and, increasingly, strangers, using the Internet. Such word-of-mouth represents a highly influential information source for potential tourists and is therefore of great interest to tourism marketing managers.

Isarn Dharma word segmentation
2013 International Conference on Control, Automation and Information Sciences (ICCAIS), 2013This paper presents Isarn Dhama word segmentation based on the Isarn Dharma writing system and dictionary. In this study, input text is segmented into sequences of Isarn Dharma Character Clusters (IDCCs). Each IDCC represents a group of inseparable Isarn Dharma characters based on the Isarn Dharma writing system.

Morphological cursive word segmentation
Proceedings 13th Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image Processing (Cat. No.PR00878), 2002The work describes a new algorithm for segmentation of handwritten cursive words, based on the following two hypotheses: 1) natural segmentation points (SPs) exist corresponding to disconnected characters; and 2) the physical SPs between connected characters are located in ligatures.

Word segmentation with universal prosodic cues
Cognitive Psychology, 2010When listening to speech from one's native language, words seem to be well separated from one another, like beads on a string. When listening to a foreign language, in contrast, words seem almost impossible to extract, as if there was only one bead on the same string. This contrast reveals that there are language-specific cues to segmentation.

Incorporating Word Attention into Character-Based Word Segmentation
Proceedings of the 2019 Conference of the North, 2019Neural network models have been actively applied to word segmentation, especially Chinese, because of the ability to minimize the effort in feature engineering. Typical segmentation models are categorized as character-based, for conducting exact inference, or word-based, for utilizing word-level information. We propose a character-based model utilizing

New Cyber Word Discovery Using Chinese Word Segmentation
2019 IEEE 3rd Information Technology, Networking, Electronic and Automation Control Conference (ITNEC), 2019Increasing new cyber words, if they could not be effectively identified, will seriously affect the accuracy of word segmentation, and bring great difficulties to the related work. In order to solve the problem that the Web text is not specific and the content is short, this paper proposes a new word discovery method combined with statistics and rules ...
