Minimum Aberration Split‐Plot Designs When the Whole Plot and Subplot Factors Do Not Have the Same Importance

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
In practical factorial experiments, we sometimes find that complete randomization of the order of the runs is infeasible because it is more difficult to change the levels of some factors than the others, especially in some engineering experiments. Then, fractional factorial split‐plot (FFSP) designs represent a practical option in such situations.

Forced Rating Systems from Employee and Supervisor Perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, Volume 59, Issue 5, Page 1573-1607, December 2021., 2021
ABSTRACT Many firms use forced rating systems in which supervisors must evaluate employees according to a predefined distribution. We develop new theory suggesting that forced ratings are less likely to enhance performance when supervisors assess subjective dimensions of employee performance (e.g., creativity), but can have some harmful side effects ...

Design of Low‐Power Structural FIR Filter Using Data‐Driven Clock Gating and Multibit Flip‐Flops

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Optimization for power is one of the most important design objectives in modern digital signal processing (DSP) applications. The digital finite duration impulse response (FIR) filter is considered to be one of the most essential components of DSP, and consequently a number of extensive works had been carried out by researchers on the power ...

Control Synthesis of Uncertain Roesser‐Type Discrete‐Time Two‐Dimensional Systems

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
This paper is concerned with control synthesis of uncertain Roesser‐type discrete‐time two‐dimensional (2D) systems. The mathematical model of the 2D system’s parameter uncertainty, which may appear typically in many actual environment, is modeled as a convex bounded uncertain domain.

Architecture and Application‐Aware Management of Complexity of Mapping Multiplication to FPGA DSP Blocks in High Level Synthesis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Reconfigurable Computing, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Multiplication is a common operation in many applications and there exist various types of multiplication operations. Current high level synthesis (HLS) flows generally treat all multiplication operations equally and indistinguishable from each other leading to inefficient mapping to resources.

Performance Evaluation of Heart Sound Cancellation in FPGA Hardware Implementation for Electronic Stethoscope

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
This paper presents the design and evaluation of the hardware circuit for electronic stethoscopes with heart sound cancellation capabilities using field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The adaptive line enhancer (ALE) was adopted as the filtering methodology to reduce heart sound attributes from the breath sounds obtained via the electronic ...

Stability Criteria for Uncertain Discrete‐Time Systems under the Influence of Saturation Nonlinearities and Time‐Varying Delay

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
The problem of global asymptotic stability of a class of uncertain discrete‐time systems in the presence of saturation nonlinearities and interval‐like time‐varying delay in the state is considered. The uncertainties associated with the system parameters are assumed to be deterministic and normbounded. The objective of the paper is to propose stability

Holistic Biquadratic IIR Filter Design for Communication Systems Using Differential Evolution

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Digital IIR filter implementations are important building blocks of most communication systems. The chosen number format (fixed‐point, floating‐point; precision) has a major impact on achievable performance and implementation cost. Typically, filter design for communication systems is based on filter specifications in the frequency domain.

FPGA‐Based Fixed Point Implementation of a Real‐Time Induction Motor Emulator

open access: yesAdvances in Power Electronics, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
This paper investigates the numerical issue of a discrete‐time induction‐motor emulator implementation. The stability analysis of the finite‐word‐length implementation shows a coupling between required word length and the sample rate. We propose specific guidelines to analyze this coupling and to estimate the required data word length for both signals ...

An Accurate Hardware Sum‐of‐Cisoids Fading Channel Simulator for Isotropic and Non‐Isotropic Mobile Radio Environments

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
The rapid technological development in the field of wireless communications calls for devices capable of reproducing and simulating the behavior of the channel under realistic propagation conditions. This paper presents a hardware fading channel simulator that is able to generate stochastic processes characterized by symmetrical and asymmetrical ...
