The vulnerability of rules in complex work environments: dynamism and uncertainty pose problems for cognition [PDF]
Many complex work environments rely heavily on cognitive operators using rules. Operators sometimes fail to implement rules, with catastrophic human, social and economic costs. Rule-based error is widely reported, yet the mechanisms of rule vulnerability

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

TreeSpider: In‐Canopy Exploration With Tether‐Based Aerial Modular Arms
A tethered drone with perching arms and a 360° ring enables unprecedented maneuverability within dense forest canopies. By dynamically adjusting tether length and decoupling pitch from the frame, it navigates between branches, senses multiple trees, and interacts physically with foliage.

Innovative Work Practices and Sickness Absence: What Does a Nationally Representative Employee Survey Tell? [PDF]
The paper examines the effect of innovative work practices on the prevalence of sickness absence and accidents at work. We focus on several different aspects of workplace innovations (self-managed teams, information sharing, employer-provided training ...

Here, we present a textile, wearable capacitive interface enabling multidirectional remote control by dynamically modulating electrode overlap and spacing via a freely gliding upper electrode. A forearm‐mounted prototype drives robotic and media tasks with 12–15 ms latency, maintains < 0.8% drift after 500 cycles, and remains stably functional at 90 ...
