Abstract Triassic pseudosuchians had highly diversified cranial morphologies. These archosaurs occupied diverse ecological roles, ranging from terrestrial predators and herbivores to semiaquatic ambush predators and possible waders. Here, we apply linear cranial morphometrics to assess possible convergences with other sauropsids from the clades ...

Editorial Commentary: Estrogen Influences Shoulder Health
Abstract Estrogen influences bone mineral density, muscle quality and quantity, and collagen synthesis, rotator cuff tearing, worse outcomes after rotator cuff repair, hyperlaxity, and adhesive capsulitis. In this commentary, we discuss the potential explanations for the highly significant associations between hormonal systemic birth control and a ...

Interlukin‐5 (IL‐5) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) by promoting eosinophil differentiation, activation, and survival. We present here a typical case of EGPA in which treatment with IL‐5 pathway inhibitors is prescribed, showing to be beneficial for the patient.

The main goal of mechanical ventilation is to help restore gas exchange and reduce the work of breathing (WOB) by assisting respiratory muscle activity. Knowing the determinants of WOB is essential for the effective use of mechanical ventilation and also to assess patient readiness for weaning.

Work of breathing in exercising ponies
Research in Veterinary Science, 1989This paper attempts to evaluate the changes in the mechanical work of breathing induced by the increase of ventilation in ponies exercising on a treadmill. Airflow, tidal volume (VT) and oesophageal pressure were simultaneously recorded in eight ponies (four to six years old and weighing 258 +/- 11 kg) before, during and after standardised exercise ...

Bedside assessment of the work of breathing
Critical Care Medicine, 1988The oxygen consumption (VO2) of healthy volunteers and patients recovering from respiratory failure in the ICU was measured by indirect calorimetry during complete mechanical (VO2vent) and spontaneous (VO2wean) ventilation. The work of breathing was calculated as the difference in VO2 between spontaneous and mechanical ventilation and expressed as a ...
