Spontaneous breathing trial and post-extubation work of breathing in morbidly obese critically ill patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Figure S5. difference in the work of breathing expressed in J/l between each test and the post-extubation period. Dashed line represents the absence of difference between the test and the post-extubation period.

Pulmonary Dysfunction Is Associated With Sleep Study Abnormalities in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

Measurement validity of an electronic training device to assess breathing characteristics during inspiratory muscle training in patients with weaning difficulties.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) improves respiratory muscle function and might enhance weaning outcomes in patients with weaning difficulties. An electronic inspiratory loading device provides valid, automatically processed information on breathing ...

Breathing as an Input Modality in a Gameful Breathing Training App (Breeze 2): Development and Evaluation Study

open access: yesJMIR Serious Games, 2022
BackgroundSlow-paced breathing training can have positive effects on physiological and psychological well-being. Unfortunately, use statistics indicate that adherence to breathing training apps is low.

Collective modes of a two-dimensional Fermi gas at finite temperature

open access: yes, 2017
In this work we examine the breathing mode of a strongly interacting two-dimensional Fermi gas and the role of temperature on the anomalous breaking of scale invariance.

Generation of stable and breathing flat-top solitons via Raman assisted four wave mixing in microresonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Flat-top-soliton (or platicon) dynamics in coherently pumped normal dispersion microresonators is important for both fundamental nonlinear physics and microcomb generation in the visible band.

Collective Motion of Polarized Dipolar Fermi Gases in the Hydrodynamic Regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Recently, a seminal STIRAP experiment allowed the creation of 40K-87Rb molecules in the rovibrational ground state [K.-K. Ni et al., Science 322, 231 (2008)]. In order to describe such a polarized dipolar Fermi gas in the hydrodynamic regime, we work out

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Bending and Breathing Modes of the Galactic Disk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We explore the hypothesis that a passing satellite or dark matter subhalo has excited coherent oscillations of the Milky Way's stellar disk in the direction perpendicular to the Galactic midplane.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
