On the Completion of Workflows
2006Workflow Management Systems (WFMS) coordinate execution of logically related multiple tasks in an organization. A workflow schema is defined using a set of tasks that are coordinated using dependencies. Workflows instantiated from the same schema may differ with respect to the tasks executed.

Dynamic Workflow Instrumentation for Windows Workflow Foundation
International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA 2007), 2007As the complexity of business processes grows, the shift towards workflow-based programming becomes more attractive. The typical long-running characteristic of workflows imposes new challenges such as dynamic adaptation of running workflow instances.

Workflow Testing and Workflow Engineering
2009When there is too much work and too few personnel, there are two main options: hire more staff or improve the efficiency of the existing employees. Generally, it is much cheaper and more satisfying to improve efficiency by identifying and removing workflow bottlenecks.

2019
Processes govern every aspect of software development and every aspect of application usage. Whether trivial, complex, formal, or ad hoc, processes are pervasive in software engineering. This chapter summarizes a variety of ways in which process models, also referred to as workflows, can be used to achieve significant improvements in a range of ...

Timing constraint workflow nets for workflow analysis
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics - Part A: Systems and Humans, 2003The analysis of the correctness and rationality of a workflow model plays an important role in the research of workflow techniques and successful implementation of workflow management. This paper points out the relevant problems in the verification and analysis of a workflow model.

Dynamic workflow management: a framework for modeling workflows
Proceedings of the Thirtieth Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2002Current workflow management systems do not provide adequate support for workflow modeling. Real life work processes are much richer in variations and more dynamic than is expressed in a typical workflow model. Users need to be able to adjust workloads and modify workflow models on-the-fly.

Workflow Wrapper for Unstructured Workflows
2011Modelling workflow for prerequisite relations produces well-defined and well-formed workflow that contains only and-splits and and-joins. Such workflow often cannot be transformed to a structured workflow. Workaround based on elements cloning produces similar structured workflow that corresponds to original workflow, but requests design of a workflow ...

Workflows and cooperative processes
Software Process: Improvement and Practice, 2006AbstractWorkflows emphasize the partial order of activities, and the flow of data between activities. In contrast, cooperative processes emphasize the sharing of artefact, and its gradual evolution toward the final product, under the cooperative and concurrent activities of all the involved actors. This article contrasts workflow and cooperative ...

The action workflow approach to workflow management technology
Proceedings of the 1992 ACM conference on Computer-supported cooperative work - CSCW '92, 1992Abstract This paper describes the ActionWorkflow™ approach to workflow management technology: a design methodology and associated computer software for the support of work in organizations. The approach is based on theories of communicative activity as language/action, developed in a series of systems for coordination among users of networked computers.

On Transactional Workflows. [PDF]
The basic transaction model has evolved over time to incorporate more complex transactions structures and to take the advantage of semantics of higher-level operations that cannot be seen at the level of page reads and writes. Well known examples of such extended transaction models include nested and multi-level transactions.
