The thalamus and working memory [PDF]
In this issue of JINS, Gasparini and her colleagues (2008) report a subject with a right anterior choroidal artery territory stroke that damaged the anterior hippocampus, but likely more importantly, much of the ventral posterior limb of the internal capsule, effectively disconnecting the right thalamus from temporal cortex.

Dynamic hidden states underlying working memory guided behaviour
Recent theoretical models propose that working memory is mediated by rapid transitions in 'activity-silent' neural states (for example, short-term synaptic plasticity).

Variable Rate Working Memories for Phonetic Categorization and Invariant Speech Perception [PDF]
Speech can be understood at widely varying production rates. A working memory is described for short-term storage of temporal lists of input items. The working memory is a cooperative-competitive neural network that automatically adjusts its integration ...

Possible role of human ribonuclease dicer in the regulation of R loops
R loops play an important role in regulating key cellular processes such as replication, transcription, centromere stabilization, or control of telomere length. However, the unscheduled accumulation of R loops can cause many diseases, including cancer, and neurodegenerative or inflammatory disorders. Interestingly, accumulating data indicate a possible

Habitual prospective memory in schizophrenia
Background Prospective memory (PM), the act of remembering that something has to be done in the future without any explicit prompting to recall, provides a useful framework with which to examine problems in internal-source monitoring.

Current trends in single‐cell RNA sequencing applications in diabetes mellitus
Single‐cell RNA sequencing is a powerful approach to decipher the cellular and molecular landscape at a single‐cell resolution. The rapid development of this technology has led to a wide range of applications, including the detection of cellular and molecular mechanisms and the identification and introduction of novel potential diagnostic and ...
