Statistical evaluation of control inputs and eye movements in the use of instruments clusters during aircraft landing [PDF]

open access: yes
Two different types of analyses were done on data from a study in which eye movements and other variables were recorded while four pilots executed landing sequences in a Boeing 737 simulation.

Clinically Informed Intelligent Classification of Ovarian Cancer Cells by Label‐Free Holographic Imaging Flow Cytometry

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Quantitative phase maps of single cells recorded in flow cytometry modality feed a hierarchical architecture of machine learning models for the label‐free identification of subtypes of ovarian cancer. The employment of a priori clinical information improves the classification performance, thus emulating the clinical application of liquid biopsy during ...

Scheduling Aircraft to Reduce Controller Workload

open access: yes, 2009
We address a problem in air traffic management: scheduling flights in order to minimize the maximum number of aircraft that simultaneously lie within a single air traffic control sector at any time $t$. Since the problem is a generalization of the NP-hard no-wait job-shop scheduling, we resort to heuristics.

Large Language Model‐Based Chatbots in Higher Education

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The use of large language models (LLMs) in higher education can facilitate personalized learning experiences, advance asynchronized learning, and support instructors, students, and researchers across diverse fields. The development of regulations and guidelines that address ethical and legal issues is essential to ensure safe and responsible adaptation

Fault-free validation of a fault-tolerant multiprocessor: Baseline experiments and workoad implementation [PDF]

open access: yes
In the future, aircraft employing active control technology must use highly reliable multiprocessors in order to achieve flight safety. Such computers must be experimentally validated before they are deployed.

VAE+DDPG: An Attention‐Enhanced Variational Autoencoder for Deep Reinforcement Learning‐Based Autonomous Navigation in Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Variational Autoencoder+Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient addresses low‐light failures of infrared depth sensing for indoor robot navigation. Stage 1 pretrains an attention‐enhanced Variational Autoencoder (Convolutional Block Attention Module+Feature Pyramid Network) to map dark depth frames to a well‐lit reconstruction, yielding a 128‐D latent code ...

Predicting Materials Thermodynamics Enabled by Large Language Model‐Driven Dataset Building and Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Illustration of text data mining of rare earth mineral thermodynamic parameters with the large language model‐powered LMExt. A dataset is built with mined thermodynamic properties. Subsequently, a machine learning model is trained to predict formation enthalpy from the dataset.

Data‐Driven Design of Bimodal Networked Dielectric Elastomers for High‐Performance Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A data‐efficient artificial intelligence‐assisted framework, which integrates experimental data with machine learning, is developed for the design of bimodal networked dielectric elastomers (DEs) as advanced artificial muscles. It adopts neural networks to predict DEs’ mechanical properties and support vector machines to classify electromechanical ...

Simulation fidelity and numerosity effects in CDTI experimentation [PDF]

open access: yes
Twenty pilot workload assessment techniques were compared using a simulated flying task in which three levels of psychomotor workload were imposed. The experiment was conducted in a three degree of freedom motion base simulator.
