Avian malaria and invasion success: Contrasting infection patterns in two introduced Eurasian sparrows in North America (Passer domesticus and Passer montanus)

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife
Biological invasions present a unique context to investigate how parasites influence host establishment and spread. We compared whether the more invasive house sparrow (Passer domesticus, HOSP) showed lower haemosporidian (Plasmodium) infection ...

Microbial Contribution to Soiling and Its Impact on Photovoltaic Module Soiling in Arid Zones of the Atacama Desert

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Microorganisms colonizing photovoltaic surfaces in the Atacama desert form biofilms that enhance particle adhesion and reduce energy yield. This study identifies UV‐resistant bacteria and carotenoid‐producing strains that interfere with PV performance.

Pre‐Administration of Akkermansia Muciniphila Prevents the Development of Severe Acute Graft‐Versus‐Host Disease in Systemic Organs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Akkermansia muciniphila, a next‐generation probiotic, alleviates acute graft‐versus‐host disease (aGvHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) by providing protective effects across multiple organs. Pre‐colonization with A.

Long‐Term Elevated CO2 Improves Soil Health and Rice Yields in Paddy Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Combining the two longest‐running rice free‐air CO2 enrichment experiments with a global data synthesis, this study demonstrates that long‐term elevated CO2 consistently enhances soil health. In rice paddies, this improvement sustains the CO2 fertilization effect over decades.

Ecologically‐Valid Emotion Signatures Enhance Mood Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies ecologically‐valid Divergent Emotional Functional Networks (DEFN), derived from dynamic functional connectivity during naturalistic movie watching. The DEFN reliably enhances diagnostic accuracy for mood disorders, including major depressive and bipolar disorders, demonstrating strong reproducibility across demographic factors and

Generalized Mechanism Model for Ecosystem Hysteresis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A simplified model examines ecosystem transitions into alternative states after disturbances by leveraging positive and negative feedbacks. It identifies critical tipping points and quantifies hysteresis. Tests conducted on lakes, grasslands, and pitcher‐plant leaves align closely with empirical data and enable the prediction of recovery trajectories ...

Hyperviscous Diabetic Bone Marrow Niche Impairs BMSCs Osteogenesis via TRPV2‐Mediated Cytoskeletal‐Nuclear Mechanotransduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Diabetic bone marrow exhibits pathological ECM hyperviscosity that activates TRPV2‐mediated Ca2⁺ influx, leading to perinuclear F‐actin disassembly, nuclear deformation, and chromatin condensation. This cytoskeletal‐nuclear decoupling suppresses osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.

A Critical Evaluation of the Capital Theory Approach to Sustainable Development [PDF]

open access: yes
Irrigation farmers in the lower reaches of the Vaal and Riet Rivers are experiencing substantial yield reductions in certain crops and more profitable crops have been withdrawn from production, hypothesised, as a result of generally poor but especially ...
