A Wearable Brain–Computer Interface for Mitigating Car Sickness via Attention Shifting

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Car sickness poses a major challenge in vehicular travel, yet effective nonpharmacological solutions are scarce. We developed a wearable, closed‐loop mindfulness BCI that uses real‐time EEG‐based neurofeedback to shift attention away from motion‐induced discomfort. Validated in real‐car experiments involving >100$>100$ susceptible individuals, over 83%

Ultrasound Modulation of Visual Circuits in Mice Independent of Auditory Confound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, Qiu et al. found that low‐intensity ultrasound can directly activate sparse ultrasound‐sensitive neurons (UNs) in the primary visual cortex (V1) of deafened mice. The proportion of these sparse UNs is pressure‐dependent. Furthermore, ultrasound modulates visual circuitry with distinct excitatory and inhibitory effects.

What do connectionnist simulations tell us? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In his review, Rispoli’s main concern is that Elman et al.’s book will aggravate the degree of polarisation in developmental psycholinguistics. I cannot really comment on this worry, as developmental psycholinguistics is not my field.

Strategic cognition in paranoia: the use of thought control strategies in a non-clinical population

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Recent work in the area of cognition and emotion has focused on the process as well as the content of thought. Metacognitive approaches have included studies of people's relationship with internal experience (cf.

A Perspective on Interactive Theorem Provers in Physics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Into an interactive theorem provers (ITPs), one can write mathematical definitions, theorems and proofs, and the correctness of those results is automatically checked. This perspective goes over the best usage of ITPs within physics and motivates the open‐source community run project PhysLean, the aim of which is to be a library for digitalized physics

The Structure of Sensorimotor Explanation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The sensorimotor theory of vision and visual consciousness is often described as a radical alternative to the computational and connectionist orthodoxy in the study of visual perception.

Respiratory‐Limbic Coupling via a Thalamic Circuit Alleviates Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delineates a conserved preBötCGlu→PVT→CeA circuit that gates anxiety and respiration. Activation of this circuit is anxiolytic and respiratory‐stabilizing, while its inhibition has the opposite effect. Mechanistically, PVT exerts its anxiolytic action via a disinhibitory microcircuit: its inputs preferentially target CeL GABAergic neurons ...

What do repetitive thinking styles tell about hyperemesis gravidarum?

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Psychopharmacology, 2018
OBJECTIVES: Although there are studies investigating the relationship between anxiety disorders, depression, and hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), none have sufficiently clarified the link between underlying psychological processes and HG.

Nicotinamide and Pyridoxine Supplementation Enhances Muscle Stem Cell Activity and Muscle Regeneration in Humans: A Randomized Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Trial of High Force Eccentric Contraction Recovery in Healthy Young Men

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a randomized clinical trial, we test the potential of combined nicotinamide (NAM) and pyridoxine (PN) to improve muscle recovery through muscle stem cell (MuSC) activity. Daily oral NAM and PN supplementation after high intensity muscle contractions enhances MuSC activation and differentiation, and accelerates muscle regeneration, providing new ...

Debt and Health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Debt problems in the UK have recently become much more severe, especially for the lowest income groups, and we examine here their impact on health, using data from the national Families´ and Children´s Survey (FACS).
