An analytical design model for wound rotor synchronous machines
2013 IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium (ESTS), 2013Optimization-based design of electric machinery over a large design space requires the use of computationally efficient models to predict machine behavior. In this work, an analytical design model is developed for wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSMs), a key technology for power generation in marine applications.

Durability of filament-wound composite flywheel rotors
Mechanics of Time-Dependent Materials, 2011This paper predicts the durability of two types of flywheels, one assumes to fail in the radial direction and the other assumes to fail in the circumferential direction. The flywheel failing in the radial direction is a conventional filament-wound composite flywheel and the one failing in the circumferential direction is a tailor-made type.

Dual-rotor, radial-flux, toroidally wound, permanent-magnet machines
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2003A novel machine family-dual-rotor, radial-flux, toroidally wound, permanent-magnet (RFTPM) machines-is proposed in order to substantially improve machine torque density and efficiency. After the principles of operation, configurations, and features are discussed, the machine design and optimization guidelines are given.

Rotor inter-turn short circuit fault detection in wound rotor induction machines
The XIX International Conference on Electrical Machines - ICEM 2010, 2010The aim of this paper is to develop a technique for detecting a real rotor inter-turn short-circuit fault in a wound rotor induction machine working as generator by using the spectral and the bispectral analysis. The stator currents provide interesting signatures since the rotor inter-turn short-circuit fault introduces new harmonics in the stator ...

Performance analysis of wound rotor induction motor subjected to rotor windings asymmetry
IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016The aim of this paper is to analyze the performance of 3-phase wound rotor induction motor (WRIM) under rotor windings asymmetry. The behavior of WRIM were simulated under healthy and asymmetry conditions. With the aid of simulation results, variation of motor speed, electromagnetic torque, stator and rotor currents have been analyzed.

Static exciter for wound rotor induction machine
[Proceedings] IECON '90: 16th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2002Possible techniques of self-exciting a wound rotor induction machine are discussed. A practical controller based on the slip energy recovery principle in the wound rotor machine is investigated and compared with conventional methods of self-exciting and squirrel cage machine.

Detection of Rotor Eccentricity in Wound Rotor Induction Machines Using Pole-Specific Search Coils
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2015Condition monitoring is a standard method for scheduling maintenance and ensuring that catastrophic failures do not occur. It is used in many applications where there is high capital cost or the location is remote. Condition monitoring is increasingly used in renewable energy as stated in [1]-[4] and these mostly address the rotating equipment and in ...
