Performance analysis of wound rotor induction motor subjected to rotor windings asymmetry

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
The aim of this paper is to analyze the performance of 3-phase wound rotor induction motor (WRIM) under rotor windings asymmetry. The behavior of WRIM were simulated under healthy and asymmetry conditions. With the aid of simulation results, variation of motor speed, electromagnetic torque, stator and rotor currents have been analyzed.

A case study of wound rotor induction motor protection

Conference Record of 1999 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.99CH36338), 2003
Wound rotor induction motors provide several advantages over squirrel cage induction motors when applied to high inertial loads. This paper describes an example of applying motor protection techniques to a wound rotor motor with a slip energy recovery drive system. Special emphasis was placed on detecting and clearing ground faults in the rotor circuit.

Multi-harmonic tracking for diagnosis of rotor asymmetries in wound rotor induction motors

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
Most of the research work hitherto carried out in the induction motors fault diagnosis area has been focused on squirrel-cage motors in spite of the fact that wound-rotor motors are typically less robust, having a more delicate maintenance. Over recent years, wound-rotor machines have drawn an increasing attention in the fault diagnosis community due ...

Wound Rotor to Induction Motor and VFD Conversion Case Study

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2011
This paper will present a method, which has been used to retrofit vintage wound rotor motors in various applications in the forest products industry. This calculation method was developed due to the end user's need to retrofit an existing application and the lack of detailed motor data.

A wound-rotor induction motor closed-loop control system

Proceedings of 1994 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE'94), 2002
A subsynchronous cascade system implemented in the laboratory permits motor speed control by using two cascade-connected governors (the first for speed and the second for current), to fire the inverter of the rotor DC link. A diode bridge is connected to the rotor terminals and the thyristorized inverter is connected to the line by means of an ...

On the Speed Control of Wound-Rotor Induction Motors Using Rotor Impedance Control

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1979
Significant improvements in the performance of rotor impedance control for constant speed operation of wound-rotor induction motors can be achieved by the introduction of an inductor as a third element of the series resistor-capacitor combination in the rotor circuit.

Dynamic performance of series-connected wound rotor induction motor

2010 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy, 2010
Series-connected induction motor has the ability of operation either at two speeds; the first one is less than the synchronous speed depending on the load, while the second speed is exactly double the synchronous speed. The motor has the capability of self-starting to reach the first speed.

Design Optimization of Wound Rotor Induction Motor Using Genetic Algorithm

2019 5th Conference on Knowledge Based Engineering and Innovation (KBEI), 2019
Wound rotor induction motors have been underestimated for specific applications and high power. Therefore, in this paper, the optimization of the design of a wound rotor induction motor using a genetic algorithm with objective function including power losses and motor weight is proposed.

M.M.F.-harmonic effects in induction motors with phase-wound rotors

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1969
While the influence of m.m.f. harmonics on the winding inductances of practical induction motors with phase-wound secondaries is extremely small, their effect on the current waveforms may be profound. The problem posed by this phenomenon is readily stated in terms of dynamic circuit theory, but the standard transformation techniques do not facilitate a
